Dear all:

I am currently an intern in a transitional year program. I am looking for an psych residency right now. I would like to pursue it with an emphasis on psychotherapy/ psychodynamics.

Does anyone know a way to find programs with strong psychodynamic emphases? I don't think location matters too much.

I heard from an FP resident that he spoke to a psych doc who went to a program that primarily emphasized outpt psychiatry. The FP res was not sure which state it was, but it is some where in the North/East coast.

If anyone knows any good primarly outpt based programs, please let me know.

Right now, I am looking at USC, but that is simply because of location. I don't really think USC has overly strong an emphasis on psychotherapy, but I am looking at it because my family is in L.A.

However, if I can find a really good program else where that is more to my area of interest, I am willing to consider moving across the country, far away from family.

sincerely. Dr. Peiyueng

i heard that the east coast schools are more likely to have psychodynamic emphasis. also, i am guessing that it might be easier to find additional training in psychodynamics if you want to put some time into 'analytic institues'.. i just guess that they are easier to find on the east coast too. if anyone knows any different, i would like to hear about it too! especially if people know about psychotherapy, cbt, dbt, and psychodynamic training in cali!

When I interviewed at George Washington last year, I definitely got the impression that psychotherapy is strongly emphasized.
