I also have an institutional action on my record for marijuana early into my sophomore year but nothing is on my criminal record. Was able to explain it well in essays I think. Thoughts on how big of a deal this will be?

I know I have weak ECs but I am hoping my GPA/MCAT can make up for it. I really wanted to get some more under my belt this gap year but Ive sorta had a family emergency that had me preoccupied for a while. I just submitted half of my secondaries today and will submit the other half tomorrow or the day after. I think I applied to a good spread of school. Someone tell me its going to be okay haha

You could add a few more schools such as:
Quinnipiac
Hofstra
Western Michigan
Rosalind Franklin
Medical College Wisconsin
St. Louis
Creighton
Tulane
Kentucky, Louisville and U Wisconsin accept few non residents with no connections to the state.

I don't think that IA for weed will hurt you too bad. Not ideal but doesn't close the door either.

I think your school list was good, if you have the cash to add a few more schools the other poster's got some good suggestions.

Also took me like a week to hear back from U Miami, they do screen but you'll be fine.

Do you not think my school list is good enough? I have already spent so much $ on the secondaries as is.

You don't think the IA or my weak ECs will hurt me too much?

In my opinion, your weak ECs will hurt more than that IA will.

Your stats are close to median. Your ECS are, at best, cookie cutter. Hence, the weak ECS will NOT be saved by your stats.
So what do you think my chances are? I thought you just said "You're fine, OP."

The GPA-MCAT grid shows your chances for a MD acceptance are 80%. With your list and the schools I listed they would be over 90%.
Right but with my current list and my current ECs you still think my chances are that good?

That was for the IA. Strongly suggest getting more volunteer time in, otherwise you run the risk of being crowded out by stronger candidates.
you don't think my GPA/MCAT can outweigh my weaker points?

I think you applied to a realistic list which will help you. Your MCAT is solid but not strong enough to necessarily overcome weak areas. GPAs may help, ultimately I think you'll likely get in due to having applied to a range of schools. Add more if you're concerned.

What was your IA? Did you get busted for having it on your dorm by the RAs? OR were you caught high? How did you explain it in the essays?

You need to apply to as many reasonable schools as possible to maximize your chances for interviews which is why I recommend applying to more schools.

@Goro will explain it bettee than anyone, 4.0/527 automatons are dime-a-dozen. Stats are NOT what get you into med school.

Caught by RA's in dorm room. Campus police called but I was able to go through a divergence program where my charges were dropped/expunged. Stilled recorded on my schools disciplinary record. Basically admitted to it on my essays but said I learned from it/got more mature.

Dam that's so annoying its still on your record. Back to your original question, if possible, try to beef up your ECs while you're applying. Some more shadowing hours, clinical volunteering, and non-clinical volunteering will help you have more discussion points come interview time. Your #s are certainly good enough to earn interviews at several of the schools you've listed.

According to U Miami's site "The Admissions Committee reserves the right to not send a Secondary Application to applicants who have an extremely low GPA or MCAT score, or have an unacceptable criminal record." Maybe that's why you haven't heard back from them? Not sure, could just be taking time to process you with everything going on in FL.

This is not the application of a person who dearly wants to be a physician. It is the application of someone who wants to be a doctor as long as it is convenient.
Medicine is a service profession.

Let's see some blood, sweat, and tears LOL!

Indeed. Stats get you to the door, ECs get you through the door.
ok, I see what you're going for here but there are maybe 2 people every cycle with 4.0/527 and that'd basically guarantee you at WashU so maybe we can lower these standards a bit? ;)

Or just say "4.0 automatons."
