I'm sure you guys have heard of this "i-dosing", which is basically the use of binaural beats to affect brain waves. It's been in use for some times as a form of therapy. And, just as any other form of therapy that alters your state of mind (i.e. drugs), teens have tried to abuse it for recreational purposes. This time, they claim it can recreate highs from marijuana, cocaine, etc... and there are videos of people tripping to "prove" it...

I wanted to hear what you guys thought about this. Biologically, I'm inclined to believe there is a grain of truth as sounds, such as music, can certainly induce 'feelings' in people. So why not engineer a sound that targets areas of the brain? but in the end, its just noise. I listened to one or two "tracks", no high. But then again, I'm also someone who doesn't believe in things like holistic medicine. Maybe one needs to believe it will work... placebo effect?

here are some links: make your own judgements: (stuff i googled)

I've been using binaural beats for years as a way to relax and meditate. You need the right pair of headphones to actually get it to work (stereo, so one "source" plays from the left ear and another "source" plays from the right). Your brain then numerically adds the two and makes a beat frequency. The idea is that this beat frequency can entrain your brain waves to emulate a certain mood. I don't think one could get "high", but you could certainly use it to get in a relaxed state or a concentrated state. If you think about it, you shift in between these states throughout the day, and this is essentially one way to speed that up.

PS: it takes about 20 min. of listening to it to get it to work. The beat tones are played in the background of some music, so you barely even hear it. The rest of the music is unimportant. I think the fact that this is news is pretty stupid though; it really is just a sound, similar to gongs used in meditation, that sort of thing.

My buddies and I tried this in high school about, 6 years ago. It may induce some slight brain changes, but nothing along the lines of the labeled intoxications and feelings. And they even sell one for 200 dollars called "hand of god' or something. We stole them from the interwebs, and like all the others, it sucks too.
