Gross anatomy exam and I'm definitely not ready for it...but then again are you ever ready for a gross anatomy exam??? Then hearing how people have been posting they failed or were kicked out of med school has me panicked. 😱 I'm sort of in bad shape this week anyway so i'm really concerned. :scared:

You need to stay away from other med students and SDN before major exams, they will only stress you out. I'd stick with study partners - that's it. Good luck.

haha...I know how you feel

Be careful about study partners though. I had a couple who constantly stressed themselves out even though they were the best prepared students in the class. I prefer studying alone if faced with that possiblity!

Whatever happens are you going to walk out of this exam with all 4 limbs intact and your Johnson unscathed? If this is true, then I posit that things are not really as bad as you make them out to be.

Honestly, sometimes you just have to trust in yourself first and foremost, say "F*#k all y'all haters" and crush the exam.

If you fail the exam, no one can make you feel bad about it but you. It won't be the end of the world. Focus on doing well, and leave the doubts behind.

Pysch, worried about you man, you've posted many depressed/stressed threads this year.

1. It's just a test, nothing more, nothing less. Prepare, do your best, then screw it. You'll be alright.
2. As stated, beware of other students. I usually reclusive around test time or hang out with guys I know won't be talking about the material. Med school is designed to freak you out about the little details and make you feel like you have to know everything, YOU DON'T HAVE TOO. Don't be afraid to admit you don't know everything, concede some details. Beat the system!
3. It's just med school, nothing more, nothing less. Many people take med school so seriously and it can get you down. Relax, have some fun, enjoy the moment. What happens, happens. Half of it is luck, if she smiles on you and your tested over what you studied, rejoice. If she craps on you and you are tested over the many tiny details you didn't study...get pissed at her it's HER fault.
4. Life is short, so is med school.
5. Find friends who have mastered 1-4.
Good luck, it's rough, they don't want it to be easy.

Psycho, some advice.. I've never been a real come-from-behind type student, but I know what you're describing. Feeling like you don't know jack with only a few days left..

My best advice would be set aside 15-25 minutes tonight and just PLAN out your hours for the next few days or until your exam. Don't be too hard on yourself (i.e. scheduling 14 hour days). Schedule anywhere from 6 to 9 and try to skip as much class activity as possible so you can catch up. DEFINATELY dont go to class this week, it will only exhaust you, waste your time, and deflate you by hearing those gunners brag about how they "ran 6 miles, sang in the church choir, and then studied the entire cadaver all before you and the rest class ever even got out of bed at 7 am"

::sigh::

LOL. 🙂 Gunners singing in the church choir.

Hey there,
I never, ever felt prepared for any exam that I took in medical school. I just walked in there, took a deep breath and answered the questions that were on the paper. I studied my best and did my best without cheating. In the end, I always knew more that I though I did. The worse that can happen is that you don't do as well as you want. At any rate, you do your "damage control" and live to fight another day. Above all, do not drive yourself crazy. Everyone has an off exam or two.

As tkim said: "Stop reading SDN during exam week." "Stop that right now!"

njbmd 🙂

Yes, the church choir part is funny.

Good luck PD. I know this sounds CRAZY, but try to make some time for good nights of sleep and EXERCISE this week. Even walking briskly for 20 mins outside counts as exercise, but a really good run or something will help you focus during the day and SLEEP at night (and we need REM sleep to cement all that new learning we do during the day). Avoid the gunners. Avoid the people who have been studying for months just so they can catch some March Madness in the middle of exam craziness. Ignore what other people are doing/saying they are doing (for example, if someone says, "I put in 18 REALLY GOOD hours yesterday," understand that what they really mean is, "I sat with the books open in front of me and my laptop on SDN for 18 hours yesterday."). Eat well - whole grains, fruit, and veggies with lean meats will give you a more even keel through the day instead of the energy ups and downs that simpler carbs will give you.

Most importantly, breathe and repeat the following, "I can do this. This is one test. My goal is to pass. I have years of education and hours of studying backing this up. If I don't know the answer I will put my masterful logic and reasoning skills to work. I can do this."

Do Chung Q's and you'll be fine. You don't get kicked out of med school for failing an exam.

thanks EVERYONE for all your helpful advice. I actually wrote my original post just before walking into the exam and after pulling an all-nighter...not the best approach. and yea I know i shouldn't pay attention to sdn before an exam unless i want to be freaked out, but you guys always have good advice so it's hard to stay away.

i generally aren't that freaked out about exams unless i have other things going on at the same time; i guess it's just a bad week. the sooner it's over the better.

don't worry about me; i go thru phases; i might feel stressed but exams and grades really don't throw me into a depression; other things might but not my schoolwork
