I got a new letter from CCLCM today. I live in Cleveland, so those of you who liver farther away may get it later in the week or perhaps early next week.

I'll not post the exact contents here, but if you are interested in it, please PM me.

Judd

I was wondering who would be the first to post about the letter. best of luck!

did you get it before me. Are you in Cleveland. My letter is dated Feb. 2, so I'm not sure what to make of that.

Oops,

sorry my box has been full. It's cleared out now.

Nope...just got it today--I live about 2hrs 45 from cleveland. almost had an MI when I saw the envelope

i got a letter telling me i was on hold put on a list of acceptable candidates.... cant remember the exact words since my mom read me the letter over the phone.
is this what everybody got?
is this just reminding us that we are on the waitlist or have they tapered it down a little and actually rejected people?

yeah - sounds like everyone got the same letter. mine doesn't use the wording "acceptable list" but it says the " 'hold' postition that you have is a good one in that I will make offers from that group..." I thought that all interviewees who were not accepted were placed on hold but it appears, from this letter, that people have actually been rejected. Interesting. Anyway, at least we have some final confirmation on how long we'll have to wait.

who here (sdn) on the CCLCM hold list got into Case and plans on being there regardless of their CCLCM acceptance/rejection?

I wish Case had a second look weekend...

As for me, I'm waiting for financial aid packages...

Hey SoulRflare. I'm in at Case, but want CCLCM. It's funny. When I started this process, Case way far and a way my first choice. I said, "great, this new Cleveland Clinic program will siphon 32 of the best applicants off the Case pool, leaving more room for me".

But I didn't expect that CCLCM would be so ****ing great that I'd want to go there in favor of Case. As it stands now, I really really want to go to CCLCM. And if (when) I don't get in, it will be no small disappointment.

Quite frankly, CCLCM was the better than I could have imagined it.

i think a few of us want to arrange a n imformal second look weekend. I'm sure if we told the admissions office five of us were coming together they couuld set something up for us.

What makes CCLCM so much better than Case? Sure, you get good research experience with CCLCM, but it takes 5 years (do you have to pay that extra year?) and you don't walk away with a PhD degree. Seems to me that if you really want to do research, an MD/PhD makes more sense.

Well the fifth year you actually get paid! Quite frankly, many of the physicians who do clinical research have just an MD and no formal training in clinical research, they just picked it up along the way and the intent of this program is to produce physicians who are qualified clinical researchers instead of lab research (which you can do if you choose to). Plus from what we were told it would be possible to earn a masters in your time there and thay they were actually working on possibly adding a masters degree to the MD for everyone, but it seemed like that wasn't fully planned out or developed.

I also think thought that cleveland clinic was just awesome, what really blew me away was the hospital, the facilities they had for students, the curriculum seemed really well planned out, and I just got a really good vibe from the place. I really want to go there now, even though it wasn't even close to being a top choice for me before I went there.

remember... the stipend in the fifth year is need based, so not everyone gets the same amount

that's interesting that they told you that-- they told me that the stipend is set-- the need based aid is the physician training grants during the other 4 years. the living stipend is supposedly set at whatever the allow for the "living" part of your budget during the other four years.
It will be itneresting to see what kind of aid packets they actually end up giving out in the next few months...

tuition + fees at cclcm:

4 yrs. of full tuition and students can apply for the training grant annually (needs-based). i think the 5th yr will cost students a small continuation fee, but not the tuition. tuition is set at the same level for all four yrs!!

at least that's how i understand it.

dude...is MI what I think it is? myocardial infarction? if it is, damn, you're such a nerd.. Most of us call it a heart attack. 😉

p/s being a nerd isn't such a bad thing..cuz most of us premeds are.. heh

"MI" rolls more smoothly off the tongue (or in this case, the keys...)
as for being a nerd...what can i say? but how many nerds do you know who play heavy metal guitar?

JUDDSON AND SOULRFLARE: I think I interviewed with you guys. I was the guy who worked at Case. I am in the same boat as you for the Clinic program. It definitely was nice of Hutzler to send that letter though, I am sure they have been flooded with calls about the hold category.

Did anyone get rejected after their interview at CCLCM? I got the hold leter also.

was this meant to be rhetorical? because i know several nerds that play heavy metal guitar. 😀

i got the second letter today, as well. what doesn't make sense to me is why they wouldn't send acceptances to fill the class, especially after they're finished with interviews- it seems that waiting to send out acceptances might cause a thinning of the pool of people that haven't yet decided where they're going to go.

What was in this second letter? I interviewed a little while ago and haven't heard back yet.

It's addressed to the people on hold. I got it and read it today. It's a waitlist. Dean Hutzler says he'll make acceptances to the people on HOLD after April 15th. The people accepted to CCLCM have to make a decision to enroll or not by then. They don't abide by the May 15th rules since school starts in July for CCLCM
