Yeah I just got into a school (not gonna say name) and am ridiculosly happy, beyond belief. but it's a year too late. I'm a re-applicant. so i'm kind of sad as well. I know my stuff was good for last year so it's bittersweet.

Still, happy as happy. HELL YEAH!!!! Woohooo

Congrats man, it's a great feeling. As a reapplicant i know how you feel--it just means more that you had to wait longer. but congrats

why wouldnt you say the name? was it NYMC , i saw another thread with you talking about it? Why is it a year too late? I saw your thread in the re-applicant forum. I didnt get in last year either even though I probably should have but I am not flipping out about it. Congrats and tell everyone where you finally got in....

Awwwwwwwwww congrats. Don't worry about the year off thing. It is not such a bad thing in the end if it lands you an acceptance the next year.

Congrats. Now aren't you glad you didn't risk taking the MCAT and doing worse on it, and glad that you didn't waste the 200 dollars completely to take it???? Cuz now you have an acceptance without having done that.

Just be happy. It was all worth it.

True.......but now it is all over, and at least you are not on round 3 like some that I know.

Medical school steals away some of the best years of your life. You will spend some of the most productive and active years of your life with your nose behind a book. Be greatful and enjoy this--the easiest and best part of medical school, the lapse between the acceptance letter and day one of med school.

wow, thanks for your words of optimism!

seriously though, i've heard from many, and i mean a lot of med students, that prior to your 3rd year, med school isn't so bad...

of course it depends on the school you go to, but med students at NYU, UCSF, Georgetown, UCLA, AECOM, and more have all told me that the first two years are pretty chill aside from the hectic exam weeks.

Good Job,

I thought it would have been funny if you refused to mention the name of your school, but forgot that you had an MDapplicants profile in your signature.

what? really? i've heard over and over again that 3rd and 4th year are way better than 1st and 2nd year.

You probably heard that years 3 and 4 are "better" because what you do during this time is clinically relevant (and hence more interesting). Years 1 and 2 will probably require a lot less work and we'll sure as hell get lots more sleep during the basic science years.

Also depends on where you do your rotations...

University-affiliated hospitals typically have very tough rotations however at schools where students do rotations at many different hospitals, the rotations can be very easy. This can make 3rd and 4th year much easier than 1st and 2nd however you probably won't be doing yourself a favor once residency comes.

Seriously, get over yourself. So it took an extra year for you...boo hoo. Do you realize how many more years you're going to devote to medicine?

And if you did not matriculate last year, there must have been some reasonable explanation. I've talked to you on the phone when switching interviews and I can say that you weren't very appreciative or pleasant to talk to, but rather high-strung and self-important (kinda like you're coming across on these boards). I'm sure these carry over into your interview.

Yeah. What are you thinking? What is putting him down doing for you? I say well done newdude, you have every right to be happy.

I think yp went over board but newdude has started a couple of questionable threads especially in the reapplicants forum. One is titled wasting a year of his life where he goes off on admissions committees. I too felt I wasted a year of my life and still dont have an acceptance but newdude blew up. Also weird how newdude wont say where he got in.

I'm not putting him down for getting in. I just think it's stupid for him to complain about how he "wasted" this whole year because he thinks that they should have taken him in last year. If you were to read his other obnoxious comments, I'm sure you would understand.

i used to consider it "wasting a year", but really, are you wasting a year (not directly you, bobodr, but reapps in general). i'm working in a great lab, am meeting ppl i would have never met if i got in last year....sure it's sad that i'm still not in, but who knows what crazy things can happen in this year off.....and if i get in, i can actually go to italy, which i wouldn't have been able to do if i got in last year! yea, extra year!

congrats, newdude

but i'm wondering, if i may ask, what would be a reason for not wanting to say the med school you got into...if i get in anywhere i'd probably buy a bullhorn and go around town screaming the name of the school w/ their flag sticking out my window

I don't see any MDapps in their sig. I think they took it down.

You're going to be a doctor! 😀

i think berk meant that IF there as an mdapps sig, and the OP refused to say the name, but we could all see it....it WOULD be funny

get it?

Rock on, crouton.

I'm hoping to soon be in your boat. I remember seeing your posts last year when we were all hectically scrambling to get the MCAT under control,
and now, you're on your way...

Hopefully I'll get the same joy!

GO HAVE A BEER!!!!!!!! (er whatever you like...)

Yay!
Nic 🙂

I'm a guy.

I know i'm winning, but i figure i can do it on SDN since SDNers can understand why.

As for the people talking trash about me, i got no problem with it. after going through this twice, it doesn't affect me at all.

oh also, some one PM'd me saying "is it this school?", and i was like yeah, i guess they have been tracking me.

I still have a few years to go-- but when I'm in your shoes, I'll be totally psyched!!
You did it!!!

Nah, just deductive reasoning based on recent threads on the pre-med forum. The only person I stalk is my wife, 'cause she likes it! 😉 (it's a joke people!)

Sorry. . .and my orientation is purely het. Plus, I'm probably old enough to be a father to some of the people on SDN.

On the plus side for you, many of the young women in my interview group were quite attractive. Maybe your eyes will meet someone else's over the anatomy table. 😀🙄

Congrats.

I too am a reapplicant. (still waiting for the shiny happy admit letter) In all honesty, this past year has not been as bad as I expected. I have great job that has financed the process, it has really given me even more time to grow and shape my medical career. I'm considering specialties I might not have ever thought about before, and I've got shots at schools I would have never had a chance at last year...

It wasn't what I planned, but it worked out alright... just as long as I get that letter.

Nah, i got a crappy and i mean crappy job.
for so long i couldn't even find one.
but i keep telling myself it's for two months, so suck it up.

it's funny, i am sitting next to a friend and i just told her where i am working and she is laughing as i am writing this.

like i said it's crappy, so that's why this year has been even worse.

I'm applying a year late (after my undergrad vs. after my Jr year) so I'll have basically a year off as well. Even though my time off hasn't started yet - and since I don't even know if I'll get in next app cycle - I wouldn't consider next year wasted, beacause I'll probably use the time to work and pay off some unsubsidized debt and maybe do a little traveling/relaxing before I have to put my nose to the grindstone again. To the OP: you could always try to swing it into the positive light like me.

Sounds like my friend's life before he got into Gtown SMP. He couldn't find any medically related or research related jobs even after doing research for a year and gaining a lot of experience, so he had to settle for 2 mall jobs which totally sucked, while reapplying to med school for the second time and still didn't get in so applied to an SMP program while applying for a 3rd time.

At any rate, the end is near and the beginning of a different sort of adventure that will be much tougher is on.
