I am the type to acquire general knowledge of a topic only after I have taken advanced and more detail-oriented courses if that makes any sense. So after taking biochem, I thought the part on DNA-related material of MCAT was really easy, which, of course, was a very small part on the MCAT I took :( .
It seems like many of you guys have taken P-Chem and I was wondering if it helped any on Physical Science section.
Other advanced bio or chem courses you guys thought was helpful, I would love to know. Thanks.

Hi Snudgemuffin,

Biochem was the only advanced course that I felt helped me on the mcat. Did you take the autotutorial or the lecture course?
For the PS section, I think everything you need to know is covered in the chem/phys 207-208 tracks.
I took pchem before the mcat, and I don't remember using anything from it.

P CHEM!!! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

Nooooooooo!

Have I not b!tched enough about it?!? :D

I wouldn't recommend P Chem to anyone. Hopefully people will stop taking it, and it will die off. :)

I scored an 11 on the PS section (not fabulous but not bad) without P Chem and don't imagine that it would have helped in the slightest. Actually, one full section was identical to a P Chem lab I took, but I would not recommend taking the lab in hopes of having similar luck. Just study up on the gas laws on your own time.

DO NOT TAKE P CHEM!!! If you do, quit after P Chem I (the easy part). SCREW QUANTUM MECHANICS! <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

GoBearsGo,

I took the autotutorial one. By the way, which pchem did you take?

I dont think pchem will help you on the mcats. if anything, analytical covers more of the subjects on the mcats, or you could also try taking modern physics, becuase that has some stuff as well.
pchem is mostly just thermodynamics, phase diagrams, chemical potential, lots of calculus, so it wont help. pchem 2 is quantum mechanics, and sometimes rate equations, none of which is on the physical sciences question.

I took 287-288...it was interesting, but I haven't found much use for it since.

I took the autotutorial as well. I thought it was the course most relavent to the MCAT.

Courses that helped/would have helped on the mcat:
1.biochem
2.physiology
3.ethics/logic
4.standard premed classes

the physics on the mcat is really basic stuff, as is the general chemistry. pchem is 'a bit' more in depth with plenty of calculus and all sorts of funky orbital shyte. you won't see that on the mkitty. i've had my fair share of biochem at this point (but didn't have it for the mcat). i feel that if i took biochem before the mcat i would have scored atleast a point higher on the bio section. physio helped a lot. the ethics/logic courses i have taken (long long ago) kind of helped me out for the writing section (and in decision making in general). that's all i can think of.
