Hey ya'll. Wanted to get some advice. I am a DS1 and am badly in need of some cosmetic work on my maxillary central incisors. I broke them in half in a motorcycle accident in high school.

Here are my options: I can have a 4 th year student do them and get them done pretty cheap (at least thats what I heard) Or should I try to get someone on the faculty to do them. I think some of the faculty have a practice in the clinics ad students get like 20% off....which aint much. Would any of you trust 4th years to do cosmetic work like veneers, etc?

I am just 4 weeks into school, and I don't know who to even approach about this. I have asked a few of my classmates, but most of them have dentists as parents, and get free dentistry....but for those of us who are less fortunate 🙂.......I need to save some money, cuz I'm broke....but I've wanted some cosmetic work done on my teeth for a while now.

Any advice?

Treat finding a 4th year just like you would finding a regular dentist. Ask around, ask THEM about what procedures they have done, etc. Find the one who has the best results in veneers. Maybe they even have some before/after pics. Just ask and I am sure they will be willing to give you their time. They love getting patients! 😀

The 4th year students should be fine. You can always ask around and find the best one (best in terms of not only clinical skills but also attitude). There shouldn't be much of a problem with any work that they do.

In terms of competency, I think a 4th yr should be fine. He/she should do a good job. It will be cheaper too. The only disadvantage to this is that it might take up a good chunk of your time. I don't know your class schedule, but when I was a D1, I was in school 8-5. Good luck.

Ask one of the faculty in the prosth and the restorative deptartments which 4th year students they'd recommend, after all the faculty is the ones who knows who "has the goods" and who doesn't yet. Plus, you never knoe, one of the faculty may just do it themselves for a really good deal
