I actually went to the office of AMCAS today at 2501 M St NW in DC. It's a totally unmarked building and there's just a guard behind the desk in the lobby. When I told him why I was there he laughed and said he'd seen a few student come in each day to check on their app.
The "specialist" who eventually came to the lobby (no one is permitted into the offices as of a couple of months ago, according to the guard. wonder why?) to help took my name and SSN. She came back in a few minutes and gave me a print out of her screen that showed the transcripts they had. I was missing four out of eight.
She said they were NOT transmitting to schools yet and didn't know when. She gave me the 4-6 weeks thing and suggested I re-request the missing transcripts.
Other tidbits:
She said she thought that there were about 10,000 application certified and transmitted. Much less than normal for this time of year and that many people were still having trouble with the app.
The guard said something obscure (don't want to start a rumor/panic here) like "wait 'til they scrap the whole thing and there'll be a tidal wave of students in here." I didn't really understand what he meant by that maybe just making conversation.
Overall the folks were helpful to the point that they told me what I should have been able to get in 60 seconds on the phone or 20 seconds on a online status system. Everyone was nice enough but what could they really say or do at this point?
I'm going to re-request and go back down in three weeks.
