Does anybody know of contacts in Texas/Georgia area?

1)I've got a few offers in some southern states, but I'd love to be around a bigger Texas city (IE Houston or Dallas, maybe Atlanta). Heard Houston is mainly big managed groups like anesthesia managed corporations for anesthesia.

2) anybody actually done the locums' gig and lived in another city as your primary and just then just jet around? I'm single, no kids/family, I have a few good job offers, but kind of got burned on my first job and don't want to be tied down. Not to mention with a pandemic, it's a pretty great market for ICU jobs almost everywhere.

I had a phone interview with Emory. I’m an academician. They tried to convince me that being farmed out to their community hospital was a good thing for me.

IIRC one of the EM regulars works at Wellstar and likes it.

Florida Hospital in Orlando seemed like a decent gig.

Thats disappointing because I think it would be a fun city to live in. I'm an Astros fan and I have tons of friends in Houston.
It's super hot, humid, flat and there's nothing else to do outside the city (the gulf coast there is unpleasant). I do miss pro-baseball though. But even though my wife was from there and know lots of people, I did not enjoy it. But that's just me.

He probably is looking for the hot Latinas in the club scene. And the awesome food! Lots of both down here. Haha

My child and wife sadly prevented me from checking out either.

And it was oppressively hot (temperature wise)... but I think I said that (though it deserves repeating)

It is oppressively hot. That’s just TX. Dallas is no better even though it’s four hours north.
I miss the summers of the SE. Or in the mountains.
But the food selection can’t be beat.

A big difference between Houston and Dallas is zoning. Dallas is all about zoning but in Houston it's practically non-existent. So for example in Dallas you have commercial and residential communities separate from each other, organized, etc. But in Houston sure you can get a nice restaurant you can walk to from your apartment because it's in the middle of a residential area, but you can also get a seedy porn store in the middle of a residential area. Or both! I guess this makes Houston more "colorful" as a city. But in the end which one you prefer is a personal preference. (I prefer Dallas. It looks cleaner, more organized, and there's also Ft. Worth and Arlington, the metroplex is huge. But others love Houston and Galveston is nearby and fun for a day too. In my opinion, Texas beaches are kind of ugly though. Florida beaches are much better, like St. Pete/Clearwater.)

Also both Dallas and Houston can be hot as hell and humid too, but Dallas "humidity" has never been anywhere near as oppressive to me as Houston. Dallas seems a lot more of a "drier" heat to me than Houston. Probably more worrying is Dallas has tornadoes (sometimes) and hail (often), while Houston got hurricanes and floods. Hurricanes can hit the entire city and Houston floods a lot, while in Dallas tornadoes are more limited to the path it makes across a city but still can be devastating to the parts of the city it hits of course. Hail is much more common in Dallas though. Usually you get hail the size of maybe a pea or a quarter but sometimes much bigger and thus more damaging to property. And also ice on the road can shut down Dallas for a day or two in the winter. The best weather is California but you pay for it! And the beaches or water is cold unlike the Gulf. Just my opinion.

A convenient dinner and a movie, What more could you ask for!
