I saw that most of you dont really understand LLU........so if you have questions...I can try to answer them....

I have a few questions:

(1) When does the admissions committee meet?

(2) Does the school offer any sort of merit scholarships to regular MD students?

(3) If you were to poll the professors at the school, how many would say they subscribe to evolutionary theory? (I realize that might sound like a weird question, but one of the labs I work in is an evolutionary biology lab).

(4) How may non-SDAs are at the school?

based on the info I got they meet every month

NONE that I am aware of..... my friend wanted to stay in the area.....(3.9, 38 MCAT)....no help.....they gave him like $500....rest of it loans....

I would guess at 10-15%

Last years class had around 20% non-SDA...

hope that helps.......

Do you have any idea when they will begin interviewing?

yeah, when are they interviewing?...i think they are the last school to start interviewing right?... <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

At the current time they are interviewing SDA's and some highly Qual. non-SDA's....... I friend of mine interviewed there last week.....(3.95,40,tons of extras)..... They interview non-SDA average applicants in feb/march......and if your instate.....in april/may......

How does the school's religious affiliation play itself out in everyday student life and in the school's teachings about ethical issues such as DNR, abortion, euthanasia, fertility therapy, etc.?

Hi 44,
How is the GPA range and MCAT do LLU take last year? Does the research experience play
an important part on LLU's decision factor?

Ranger Bob How does the school's religious affiliation play itself out in everyday student life and in the school's teachings about ethical issues such as DNR, abortion, euthanasia, fertility therapy, etc.? The way i would put it would be that "SDAism" is everywhere......you are req to attend church services on wed 8am....and classes end early on friday (12)....other then that.....the envir. is very friendly and "churchlike"......if your not into God....you will hate it......however it can also help you develope a relationship with God.....I myself belived in God but never thought beyond that......being here has given me the relationship with God I needed!.....on the issues.....they follow the basic Christian princ......Based on my experience.....they are against them all listed above.....hope that helps..

grettlin Hi 44,

It depends if your SDA.....if yes.....your in with the basic averages..the range of GPA and MCAT I have seen are..2.9 - 4.0, 24-41. Non-SDA.......its tough..... lowest I saw 3.45, 29...... Research.......i would say they dont really care.....they care more about community work, and work you have done for your church......

How does the committe on admission deal with non-SDA Protestants? Are we lumped in generally wth non-SDA members, or are Protestants looked upon more favorably than non-religious applicants (or applicants of religious traditions that share less in common with SDA tenets)?

I would say based upon what i knew.....cannot be 100% sure......they place everyone that is not SDA......into non-SDA. its either your SDA or not.

You HAVE to go to church! Can you at least study while the others pray?! :D ;) :p :)

Oh well, not applying there anyway. If only 10-15% of the professors "subscribe to evolutionary theory"...

I'll leave this one alone :D !

Hi 44,
Since I am a new immigrant to US 5 years ago, I have a question about foreign bachelor degree. My situation is I got the bachelor from Taiwan and then, I got master degree from USC.
Now, in order to fulfill the requirements of med school, I am taking pre-med required courses at Cal State Fullerton. Then the thing is LLU requires the applicants earning their bachelors before they apply(prefer). I don't know if my situation is acceptable to LLU committe. Do you know any LLU med student has the same situation as me? Thank you for your reply! :)

Yes church is REQ'd........you are allowed to miss 2 days per Q.....sorry your cant read or do other things.....I would not make LLU a choice if your not into being religious......most people that i have meet (I am a MPH student, not med)....they are mostly religious........

The BS before entering school.......not too sure....but i know that LLU loves international students.......

I don't know if you can help me, but I wanted to know about the residents and attending physicians at LL. Are they also predominantly SDA? I'm geussing the church attendance is not mandatory for residents? Specifically, I have an interview at the radiology department there in Jan.

Anyone know how the interviews are weighted? I interviewed with one faculty member and one MS-4. Just curious.

Hey 44 - I think your info. about interviewing is a bit off as I know a few friends who are non-SDA who have already interviewed (all are locals) - and LLU is not only interviewing non-SDA with exceptional stats...exceptional people, yes...but LLU is certainly not only looking for non-SDA's in the 35-40MCAT range.

What's up Fred Durst - Congrats. again on your interview. I'm sure you nailed them. Take care, and see you around.
