After studying hours for the MCAT, volunteering, and keeping up the grades, what will you do if you don't get accepted after a couple of tries?

Dentist? PA? Pharmacist? Bum?

I would make an effort to save the hundreds of beautiful sharks that are slaughtered every year by humans. It is a shame.

Hey, nice shark avitar!!! :D

Thanks. It took me awhile to find a pic of a shark worthy of Studentdoctor network. SAVE THE SHARKS.

I figure I'll just mary a doctor.

forensic scientist . . . hopefully working for the FBI

Seal clubber, shark clubber, cigarette smoker, and environment polluter.

I sincerely hope that you are joking. As someone who has been bitten by sharks on 3 separate occasions, I don't think that they deserve to be saved at all since all they do is go around biting and eating people. If I knew someone who was eaten by a shark, I'd spend the rest of my life hunting and killing them all.

If you knew someone who was eaten by a shark you'd spend the rest of your life trying to kill them?

You have been bitten by sharks on 3 separate occasions? Talk about your bad luck.

I sincerely apologize on behalf of the sharks who bit you. However, as a shark enthusiast, I can say that sharks only attack when they are provoked or feel threatened.

Sharks are beautiful, and do not deserve to be hunted and killed as you may want to do. I am glad there are many shark lovers like me that will protect the rights of sharks.

I believe that sharks are very ugly and in a severe need of a "good" beating. Sharks are dumb idiots with no brains. They bite people cause they are stupid. Sharks need to be beaten.

I will pretend as if that wasn't just said. :(

You must be a serious idiot for managing to get bit by a shark 3 times...killing sharks (or any animal) isn't a solution for other peoples stupidity.

I'll move to California and become a startving artist; either that or a professional American Idol competitor (hey, if Will Hung can do it, I can do it too).

Seriously, I would become a pre-health/career counselor and student mentor at both the high school and undergraduate levels.

What does that have to do with your alternative career choices...so your only goal in life if you don't become a doctor is to marry one so that you can spend his money?

Speding someone's money sounds good to me. :)

Anyone who got bit by a shark three times deserves to get eaten the fourth.

maybe i'll go PA, we'll see

As for sharky, what will you do when a patient comes in that is totally mangled by a shark. just an innocent scuba diver, torn up to shreds by a shark (not just a warning bite)?

Of course I will treat the patient the best that I can. Sharks make mistakes too just like people.

Sharks make mistakes? Sharks are mistakes. They should be beaten.

STOP THAT!!! I can't take your brutality towards sharks. :(

1st: Sharks rock! Leave the poor things alone.

2nd: I would become a HS Biology teacher.

3rd: I agree with smuwillobrien... you deserve to be eaten by the 4th shark.

good answer sharky, i never saw it that way. sharks make mistakes too. just like dahmer and manson, there's always bad apples in the bunch.... keep on sharkin'!

Actually, sharks taste quite good. mmMMMmm sharks

If I don't get into medical school I'm going to start my own charity...

Save the midget lumberjacks.

Don't think there's a need??? When was the last time you saw one? They are already nearly extinct!

That's bordering on cannibalism. Sharks are a necessary part of the marine ecological system. People wonder why sharks attack so much. Maybe it's because they know some humans don't like them, want to kill them, and even want to eat them.

Sharks will not stand by and see one of their own being slaughtered. This is why they attack. When humans learn to be nicer, kinder, and to treasure their existence, then sharks will do the same. Until then, such hostile feelings towards sharks will not be taken lightly.

SAVE THE SHARKS.

I have always said that small children under tha age of 3 really do taste the best. But seriously, given the choice between eating a nice juicy shark steak and a scrawny baby I'll go with the shark. I'm not saying I'm trying to be aggressive towards sharks or trying to get rid of them. No no.. that would be a problem cause if we didn't have sharks then I couldn't eat them.

Ok it is obvious you don't care about the rights of sharks. Can we just stop the shark bashing and continue with the main topic of this thread which was too discuss alternatives to medicine. Thank you.

I resent the implication that somehow I was careless just because I was bitten by sharks on 3 separate occasions. On the first occasion, I was only trying to ride a shark that I saw swimming below me when it turned around and bit me for my trouble. On the second occasion, it was partially my fault because I bit it first because I was hungry. But on the third occasion, I was just minding my own business using my knife to stab wandering sea creatures that got near me for fun when sharks approached in a frenzy and bit me on my toe! That's why I've never really liked sharks, because they go out of their way to bite people.

If I hadn't been admitted I would have bought one of those spam doctorates that often come in your e-mail. Why spend 4 years and $140,000 when you can get an M.D. cheaper? That LCME and accreditation stuff certainly elevates the price of the degree by a tidy sum! :p

Ok I'm not sure if you were trying to be sarcastic, but in the event that you were being serious.

In the first case, of course if you try to ride a shark then the shark will take that as an attack and will defend himself or herself.

In the second occasion, by biting the shark you are threatening him or her and he or she acted again in self defense.

In the third instance, when you stab wandering sea creatures, sharks don't like that because those are their friends. They live in harmony with all other marine life and when someone attacks their friends, as protectors of the sea they must respond swiftly and forcefully.

In all instances, you brought these attacks on yourself.

no! no! Megalofyia - remember the famous SDN tee shirt which says:

BE the Doctor your Parents always Wanted you to Marry!

:D

I'd be a high school biology or chemistry teacher. I'd try to become a coach for something random so that everyone would have to address me as coach. If that didn't work out, I would kill sharks too.

Clinical psychology all the way ( kind of like psychiatry).

FBI/DEA

* humming "Bad Boys" theme music

work for the CDC, NIH, or any government health agency as a public health researcher... then reapply a couple years in the future

I'd start doing small porno films on the side, and hopefully one day become a full-fledged pornstar.

1. start a career in advertising - I love being creative and thinking of cool slogans and ads. But my brother says it's a tough career especially in the beginning when the big people take your ideas and make money off of you.

2. modeling career - I want to see myself in CK underwear on a huge billboard in Times Square showing off my six-pack, pecks and matching guns. It's been a dream of mine but first I need to get the six-pack, pecks and guns - anyone know how much they cost? I gotta start making the move from the library to the gym.

Q: If Medicine doesn't work out, what's your second career choice?

A: Surgery.

I've actually used this line at med school interviews; it's always good for a laugh.

good one....Actually, a dentist or pharmacist is not a bad profession.

If i didn't get accepted I would have joined the marines and either become a sniper or a member of the Nuclear Biological and Chemical unit. I'd much rather save lives than take them.

My Plan B was to quit one of my part-time jobs (I have two), start seminary, and maybe try to have a baby ... but Plan A pulled through, so babies and seminary will have to wait. I do however, get to quit both jobs. Hooray!

Either a PhD in a bio related field or start my own speed shop (turbo import modifications, no body kits allowed).

Pilot!!! Maybe search and rescue, if really lucky work for the FBI, and if really luck, bold and good, then a test pilot.

If I don't get into med school then I will become a paramedic. Then reapply in a few years.

It's pretty interesting how the second career choice is often different than Medicine. From pilots to snipers to import car modifiers.

It's Good STuff
