Hello SDN!

If my ultimately goal is to get a MD/MBA, is it appropriate to apply to a MD school and inform them (mention it in the personal statement) that I will also apply to their business school during my first 2 years? I have searched these forums and know that many MD/MBA joint programs are:

Year 1: medicine
Year 2: medicine
Year 3: MBA
Year 4: rotations
Year 5: rotations

The reason I can't apply for both MD and MBA initially is that I won't have enough time to study for the GMAT. I will be done with school in December and spend Jan-May studying for the MCAT. I will take the MCAT in late May and apply June 1st. I have a strong interest in business and have some good entrepreneurial experience and skills that I want to apply to my love of science.

Thanks!

lousy excuse. You should either study for the mcat and gmat at the same time, or study for the gmat during your last semester of college

In that case, I should probably not mention it during my MD applications in June? My plan was to study for the GMAT after the MCAT. The reason I'm not studying for the GMAT now is b/c I'm taking 19 units, (12 of which are honors), doing research, volunteering, and tutoring.

My other justification for not doing GMAT/MCAT is b/c I really want to spend 5 solid months of studying to get a really good score for the MCAT. I could only imagine that doing both concurrently would negatively affect my scores. Finally, the MBA portion would not be started until my 3rd year of medical school.

I'm curious how this will sound to an admissions committee?
