If the med school tuition includes the laptop fee, should I get a new one?

Got into med school this week! Woohoo and I was looking at the school tuition information(gotta think about that loan for real now) and it says $1500 is included as part of first year cost of attendance. So does that mean when I take out the loan for the tuition, the 1500 is allocated for the technology equipment and I have to purchase a new laptop? I do have a Mac air from 2017 that’s very much functional and would rather not take out more loan unless it’s necessary

Thanks!

Some schools require you to purchase “their” laptop for exams. Might want to check with your school before you celebrate saving $1500, especially since you said it’s included in your tuition and fees list.

For our school, you could use your own laptop for exams, but if there was any problem whatsoever, you get no tech support. So most of us didn't want to risk a possible exam failure. What I did was have a school/work/research only computer. Then the newer one I had just was for everything else (netflix, games, etc.). Its worked out very well. Highly recommend
