If you could keep it real for just a moment, what would you say and to whom?

Here was my night. Currently i'm a tech in an ER and my nights are usually pretty chill (if that makes sense for an emergency room). But, for some reason I believe the charge nurse had it out for me....one encounter in particular stood out to me. it went like this:

REALITY

*patient hits nurse button*

*bell goes off by phone at nurses station to signal a patient needs something*

Charge nurse (with her back turned and eyes glued to her computer) - johnson! call light! (in a slightly raised voice)

Me - *picks up phone* "can I help you?" (wondering how she even knew I was there in the first place)

Patient- "can you ask the nurse if I can have more pain medication?"

Me (while staring so hard at the charge nurse back, you would think I had a brain bleed) - "ill let her know" *hangs up, walks away* like a B****

........the phone was in arms reach of the charge nurse the whole time....

IF I COULD KEEP IT REAL

*phone goes off*

Charge Nurse
- johnson! call light!

Me
"can I help you"...*nods a little then taps charge nurse on back*

Charge Nurse - yes?

Me
- It was satan, he's asking for you downstairs *drops phone and unplugs the computer the charge was working on*

......one can dream.

Anyone else get into or been in situations like this at work or school? please share I could use a laugh before I dropkick my boss.

I have no idea what's going on in this story. Did you walk away or did the charge nurse walk away? Why didn't you just ask her if she was right next to you? She made you pick up the phone and for some reason you think she's out to get you?

come on man lol, she didnt "make" me but, if I told her "hey you're right there you pick it up" that usually makes waves and instinctively I just did what she asked. thats just how im wired.

I can't not keep it real. My face gives away everything even when I'm trying to be diplomatic.

I'm glad the charge nurses I work with aren't like that. They're all extremely laid back even though our ED is extremely busy.

I don't blame you though about not wanting to answer the call lights, I had to do it a couple of nights (usually the secretary or the tele tech does it) and it drove me nuts. 80% of calls come from 3-4 patients that just constantly ask for pain medicine.
