one of the schools that I am complete at told me via email to let them know if I will be in the area in case I am invited for an interview & can schedule it accordingly. I'm actually headed to that area (across the country) twice - once in early Sep for vacation and once at the end of Oct for an interview. I was going to write to them to let them know that I will be in the area in late Oct, but then realized that they start interviewing just before I go in Sept. I hadn't wanted to "ruin" my vacation (which is with my husband's family, planned by them including plane tickets, show tickets, etc) by trying to get an interview that date. But then again, I worry that end of oct is almost 8 weeks after they start interviewing. Any thoughts? Am I just being paranoid about end of Oct being "late?"

EDIT: And when I write to school #2 - do I tell them that I am in the area for another interview, thus I'm available the days before/after the other interview date? Or just say that I am in the area during this window, but not this day (& don't give a reason)?

I have a similar question. How did you find out when the school started interviewing? Is it really appropriate to ask a school about an interview if you're going to be in the area?

I think it depends. This school asked to be let known if you will be in the area. Other schools don't mention this. For those, what do you do? I mean, they honestly can't expect a person from NY to travel to CA many times for a bunch of different interviews? Wouldn't they expect that you would try to cluster as best you can?

How exactly do the acceptances get issued?

Do they finish with all the interviews and then make the selections in mass?

Or do they offer rolling acceptancs on an on-going basis? Im in second year uni so dont listen to me.

The school I'm wondering about states letting them know if you'll be in the area. But from what I can tell from interview feedback, they don't start interviewing by the time I'll be in the area.

As for interviews being late, I have a choice between dates in September and I'm going to pick the latest one due to other interviews and travel obligations, I think, I don't know if this is a bad call, but I figure anything in September is rather early?

Nice.... so much for that. One of the schools already replied "thanks for letting us know you'll be in town, but no decision has been made on your file." (not word for word, of course) Gee, thanks! I think I understand that I haven't been invited to interview yet, but their email said "send us an email if you'll be in the area interviewing" - I follow their instructions to no avail... bah....

I think it would be good to interview earlier. You can choose to let them know why you'll be in the area or be discreet for your reasons, do let them know however, of your availability.

October is not late, but it is significant to know if the school is rolling or non-rolling. If it's non-rolling, it doesn't matter. If it is rolling, then the date does matter, but October still isn't late.
