I'm an Anesthesiologist in South Africa... how do I work in Canada?

I'm an Anesthesiologist in South Africa... I'd like to emigrate and work as a specialist in Canada.

So after doing some research I see that I may apply for Jurisdiction Approved Training considering I'm lucky enough to have specialist training that is recognized by the Royal College. It's likely they will not be completely happy with my training because anesthesia in South Africa takes 4-years of training and Canada requires 5-years. I also understand that I must complete the MCCEE.

After this I should try get a visa and a job somewhere in Canada with a restricted license and work as a "GP Anaesthetist" in a rural area until I can write the Royal College exams. After this I need to apply for a residency post, to complete any extra time or training they deem necessary.

Is this correct? Anyone with any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

I have colleagues who have gone to practice in Australia, and they say that the process there is easier. You may write the FANZCA almost immediately and you receive equivalence. However, I would like to live in Canada for several other reasons.

These are the juridisctions that are recognized by RCPSC. For South Africa, the only recognized are The Health Professions Council of South Africa; The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. If you are accepted by the RCPSC, you need then to check out the provincial health force. They might have other requirements..
