Hello folks,

I'm in third year clerkship right now, and after delaying as long as possible I have to decide what I'm going to be when I grow up. Right now, I'm very interested in the possibility of GI or cardiology. I have heard about programs which foster to MD/PhDs by tracking you into a combined IM/fellowship program with some time to do research. I haven't been able to find any good resources to find out what institutions offer this. The only web site that I saw mention of it is at UCSandiego. Can anyone help me out with other places that offer this program?

much appreciated

The ACP has a residency directory with information about certain programs, but the information is incomplete. For example, I only got a few programs under the "research track" search title; there should be more than that. More than likely you'll have to search every single residency website out there for information.

FYI:

I'm in the program at Penn right now, as an intern trying to short-track into endocrinology. The best programs I saw during my interviews were Mayo, WashU, Penn, and Pittsburgh. They really welcomed MD/PhD graduates interested in short-tracking into a research-oriented career. Didn't visit any of the West coast schools.
