My friend is debating between FM and IM, leaning possibly between FM and IM. He can only do one sub-I before application cycle kicks into high gear. He's done a FM rotation, and the Sub-I would be more of the same (straight outpatient), but he wants a more robust experience, including potential inpatient experience, so he's leaning towards IM sub-I. Would this hurt him if he then decided to go into FM? Thanks!

No it wouldn’t hurt him. You get inpatient training in FM and some FM doctors work as hospitalists.

Do ICU. Far more useful than bread and butter inpatient from a med student perspective.

Typically ICU would count as an inpatient rotation. Anything that's not clinic usually counts, sometimes with further stratification of medical vs. surgical.
