Immediate Internship Position (Non-Categorical PGY-1) available at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
One of our non-categorical interns was offered and accepted a residency position at the University of South Carolina OMFS. So we have an immediate spot for non-cat (PGY-1) position at the University of Texas Health Sciences. See below for details of the program.

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) will offer 2 non-categorical intern positions starting July 1st 2017.
Primary responsibilities will include the following:
1. Dentoalveolar surgery in an outpatient setting
2. Participation in the call schedule responding to consults for maxillofacial trauma, oro-facial infections, and additional emergent conditions
3. After-hour care of hospitalized patients
Educational opportunities provided by the internship program will include:
1) A comprehensive didactic program covering the entire scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery
2) An introductory History and Physical course
3) An introduction to outpatient anesthesia
4) Exposure to the operative management of oral and maxillofacial surgery disease and deformities in the operating room setting
5) Participation in a comprehensive trauma and rigid fixation course
6) Participation in a course focused on the evaluation of medical literature and a review of important publications (i.e. Journal Club)
7) Participation in Morbidity and Mortality conferences
8) Participation in an Ethics in Medicine program
9) Attendance at the Hinds Symposium, the largest regional OMS conference on contemporary practice in the Southwest US
10) A certified record of operative and didactic experiences
Interns will receive the salary and benefits of a categorical PGY1 resident.
The UTHealth OMS program is a full scope program that performs both core OMS procedures as well as head and neck oncology, microvascular reconstruction and esthetic procedures. We are the largest OMS program in the country enrolling 6 residents every year (3 four-year certificate positions and 3 six-year MD integrated positions) in the largest medical center in the world. The Department is composed of 6 Divisions covering 7 institutions supported by 11 full time faculty which will be expanded in 2017.

The following documentation is required for consideration:
1) Graduate of a ADA accredited dental school
1) 3 letters of recommendation ( 2 of whom are Oral Surgeons )
2) CBSE score (if taken)
3) Dental school transcripts
4) Current CV
5) Supplemental UTH OMFS application
Applicants who are selected for interviews will be notified on Match day or the day after.
