I just got back from New York, and I have to say, although it’s an awesome city, I’d hate living there as a med student. I was also annoyed at how everyone there seemed to think of it as the center of the universe. Mt Sinai especially seemed to attract a lot of New York natives who were traumatized by being away from "the city" during undergrad and are now physicially unable to leave New York 🙄 . Anyway, I left with a distinctly negative impression of Mt Sinai, which is a shame becaues I went in prepared to fall in love with it. Surprisingly enough, I fell for COlumbia instead. The students there definitely have the work-hard/play-hard mentality, which is admirable since mine died sometime in college. My host was part of the Bard Hall Players, and they’re going to perform West Side Story soon…pretty cool right? Apparently, they put on 3-4 musical productions every year, which is amazing considering these are med students we’re talking about! If Columbia were in a smaller, midwest city, I'd start writing my I 😍 Columbia letters to Dean Frantz right now!! 🙂

Thanks for the info. I love hearing about different people's perspectives of schools.

Thanks for sharing, but I'm curious to know where you're from (spent most of your time) and where you did your ugrad. I'm still debating whether or not to take a trip out to NY for a MSSM interview... it's a far way from Hawaii...

I would definitely suggest attending a revisit if you get into Mount Sinai. Unless you get into some top choice that you just LOVED (like columbia) and wouldn't even consider Sinai. You never know how different of an experience you might have at another time, coming from another perspective. Sounds like a frustrating visit though. I really hope you end up liking it better, or just going to Columbia which sounds like a better fit for you! Good luck!

i actually liked sinai better than columbia! it's really about the time i had during the interview day...i didn't meet many students at all at columbia, and i felt like they didn't show me how great they are - they just told me! but at sinai, i saw how much the students lovd the place and how happy they were.
