Does doing things associated with the medical school (research, volunteering at university hospitals, shadowing) improve chances at being accepted to that particular school? If I am doing research at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, will that play in my favor at RWJMS?

I don't think schools have an "official" stance on whether it helps at all, but I imagine that if you get a rec from someone at that school, the admissions committee might give it a little more weight.
