Hi all:

I'm currently distressed as to the current status of my application. I retook the MCAT in August and went from a (PS, BS, VR) 13,8,6 from April to a 10,10,8 and I have a 3.85 GPA and attend Univ. of FL

My applications were complete by mid October (Univ of FL application was complete 11/4) and I haven't heard ANYTHING yet.

I applied (sent in secondaries) to U FL, U South FL, U Miami, and Duke. I know it's a few schools but I don't really want to go out of state.

I have solid research experience and a solid 1.5 yrs of healthcare experience.

I don't get it. Are there numerous applications now? Should I expect to hear in January??

I'm getting so distressed over this I've lost stamina, faith, sleep, and focus 🙁

Anyone in a similar position or with a similar prior experience?

Thanks, and please excuse the post looking like my CV 😛

When was your AMCAS application transmitted to these schools, and when did you submit your secondary apps (if applicable) and other supporting materials?

AMCAS was submitted by end of August and I received the secondaries shortly thereafter.

EDIT: Secondaries and all materials were submitted by mid October (UF's was complete 11/4)....like I said above 🙂

I think you are OK. Those FL schools are hell-bent on accepting FL residents (I'm assuming you are). I think all of them combined accept just a couple of out-of-staters per year. You are in a smaller pool of applicants, ergo you have a better chance than you think.

The fact that you waited so long to complete your AMCAS application may explain why you haven't heard from the schools yet. The earlier you submit your AMCAS, the earlier you hear from schools regarding interviews. I'm willing to bet that you won't hear about your interview status until late December or early January. So be patient.

I feel for ya, buddy. Applying to such a small number of schools is always dangerous for people with average stats like you and I, but there's nothing you can do about that right now. There are two things that I would suggest:

1. Take every opportunity to express your interest in each of the schools that have received applications from you. If you don't hear anything soon, call each school and politely ask about the status of your application. Write a letter indicating your interest in each school and send it--also express your desire to pursue medicine and your reasons for it.

2. Relax. Realize that at this point you've probably done everything you can. If you don't get in this year, you will have plenty of time and experience to plan better next year. But it could very well be that you are going to get in this year...you just have to be patient until interviews are granted!

its only been a month bro....

call the schools to check on the status of your application...take some of the good advice above...

many of us have been complete since late august/early september and we havent heard anything either at lots of schools....

so its not an uncommon position you sit in.

GL.
