Does your tuition change from out of state to instate after the first year at dental school?

Also, Can you be accepted to an out of state school and post-pone your first year while living in that state for 6-12 months and then enter on instate tuition? I've heard of med students postponing their acceptance to do peace-corps before.

It all depends on the state and their tuition regulations, and not all state schools will grant in-state to an out-of-state student - regardless of how long you will/have lived in the state. In regards to postponing your acceptance that too depends on the institution and the circumstances surrounding your proposed postponement./

Thank you for your reply!

Speaking to your "goal" of UNC, the answers are yes and no. Most everyone here gets in-state standing after one year (and this a huge break on tuition). However, you can't defer your acceptance here...unless you want to go ahead and reapply the next year. 🙂 When you get in--however you are classified for tuition purposes--you begin school that way. That said, you can always move out to NC early and let the clock begin to tick from the time you arrive...

Thanks for the replies! I would be in-state if I were accepted to UNC, I was just curious to loop holes in the whole out of state tuition in case I needed to go to another school in the south-east.

Thanks!
