I am a resident of Illinois, my parents live there. I go to school in Colorado and work in Colorado. I've lived there for a year. Can I get in state tuition for both states?

Pretty sure you will have to choose one.

If I were you, I would try to get CO residency because it is very hard to get into CU Med OOS.

Illinois on the other hand, accepts close to 1/3 of their class of OOS. Plus, having parents living there will also help you, even with your OOS status.

Though, there are a lot more schools in Illinois, and even though most are private, Illinois residence may help you (I'm thinking of Rush in particular).

Which are you a resident of now? I have no idea how hard it is to switch, so the one you currently have (I'm assuming IL) might be easier. I'm pretty sure that school is not a legitimate reason to switch residencies. Work may help, but I doubt it's an easy process.

Some medical schools determine residency by where you went to high school.

I went to high school in CO also, don't know if that helps.

Ultimately, when it comes to state residency, it's a burden-of-proof thing. And schools like Colorado assume that you AREN'T a resident, and that it's your responsibility to prove otherwise. "Significant ties" aren't good enough.

I think you could make a case for being a resident, but unless you have a CO driver's license, are a registered voter here, and pay state taxes, I don't think it will work. I did a lot of research on this because I actually moved back to Colorado in order to preserve my state residency, and to my knowledge, being a declared resident of another state automatically disqualifies you. So, I don't think it will work.

How old are you? CO will only consider your parents residency status until you are 23 (or in grad school).
