I'm currently in the midst of reinvention, and finished up my first semester with a 3.96 (16 credits). I am planning to enroll in an SMP in the upcoming fall, so I am prepping for my MCAT. After some consideration, I think it's best if I fully focus on MCAT prep full-time to score as high as possible so that I can apply to SMPs and not worsen my chances.

I was planning to take courses over the summer, but it does not seem like many schools offer a variety of upper-level science courses during the summer. Should I try to attain 30 credits of DIY post-bac (even at the risk of taking them alongside MCAT prep), or would a reinvention of 24ish credits paired with an SMP be okay?

EDIT: Also, I would like to add my SGPA is below a 3.0 for more clarification.

Thank you!

I don't know what SMP you are targeting, but you should ask them about MCAT prep as part of their curriculum or if they want you to take it before starting or after completing.

How far below 3.0? In any case, it may make more sense to continue to strengthen your gpa at this stage. SMP admissions will be looking at it, too.

You left a lot of stuff out. What courses did you take to get the 3.96? How low is your sGPA?

An SMP is even hard for those who have satisfactory undergraduate backgrounds. My experience is that it is very easy to "plan" all these steps out and then 100x harder to actually get the result we want.

Not saying this to discourage you but to be realistic about how hard "reinvention" actually is.

I reached out to three of them, and all three of them heavily advised taking it prior to enrolling. I believe it is required for one of them, but the other two just said it could offset the low GPA.

I took Immunology, Medical Microbiology, Electricity and Magnetism, Toxicology, Epidemiology, and Molecular Biology. My SGPA is currently a 2.77, and another full semester of 15 credits will get me to 2.90.
