I got a master's degree in Political Science/American Politics online "for fun" while I was in the Air Force...3.99 GPA, if relevant. I'm wondering if I should not even mention this when applying to med school. Would it look bad to include it? Like I can't make up my mind what I want to do? (For reference, my bachelor's degree is in aerospace engineering).
Thanks!

Sure why not. Normally most schools will place more emphasis on your your undergrad GPA & BCPM grades but a masters degree will hopefully show an upward grade trend. I can't see it hurting you. What was your undergrad GPA?

Best of luck

Absolutely mention it. It shows depth.

In fact, I think you are required to list it on AMCAS.

You are required to post all grades in all coursework in all subjects taken since secondary school. This includes "for fun" and not "for fun" coursework.

Regardless of whether it looks good or looks bad, you *must* report all post-secondary credits that you've taken on AMCAS and submit *every* post-secondary transcript. Thus, how your MS looks is basically a non-issue at this point; every medical school you apply to is going to know about it. That being said, your grades are excellent, so I can't imagine it hurting you in any way, especially if you can think of a way that what you learned from your MS will be relevant to your future career as a physician. Best of :luck: to you. 🙂

Yup

But more importantly.. it shows a desire to learn when not required to. It shows depth of personality. I would include it absolutely and spend a bit of time pondering how that degree has impacted your conceptual framework of healthcare and where it's going. They will ask.

Masters with a 3.99 "for fun"...completely relevant.

Good luck friend.
