Is it just me or does it seem like schools are waitlisting applicants more often this year? I'm guessing this is due to applicants applying to 30+ schools.

Most applicants don't apply to 30+ schools. You're on SDN, your impression of the average pre-med is heavily skewed.

That said, there are more applicants this year than ever before..

Vanderbilt is waitlisting ppl much earlier this year, probably because their class is going from 130 or so to 88.

Every year there are more applicants than there ever were before, what gives?

I don't know the specifics, but it's cyclical and depends a lot on the economy. Application volume will probably decline in a few years.
