Increasing VR or CARS

I just took my first few passages of VR in TPRH and got 60% which was pretty disappointing. I'm not sure if I can expect a huge increase since it's not as content based. I'm looking for specific experiences - how much were you guys able to bring up your verbal score from your first practice passages to your final test?
