Indiana rejection--anybody?

Don't feel bad. IU shows preference to in state residents...they are a great school though.

As snowballz said, IU shows strong preference to in-state students. As an out-of-state applicant, you would have to have superior numbers (GPA and MCAT) or strong ties to the state to even have a chance. It could be that your GPA didn't pass the initial screen for out-of-state applicants. Good luck on the rest of your schools.

Does anyone know what strong ties to Indiana means? I grew up and went to high school there, but went out-of-state for college and two years of post-bac work. How can they tell from your AMCAS if you have strong ties? The only evidence I showed was that my high school was there because they never ask anything else. I received an email from IU after my AMCAS was processed but am waiting to hear about an interview.

a secondary. . . (i would be applying oos)

they only send secondaries to those that they are interviewing, so that would probably explain the slow response time

Do you happen to know their OOS cut-offs? I have strong ties to Indiana (grew up there and still have tons of family there).

Oh yea, I was there about a month ago!

Got a letter from Indiana, they wont ask me for an interview...guess they are going to miss out 😉

Cheers

If you're instate the acceptance rate is 45 percent, if you are out of state its about 2.

If you lived there till 30, you should be considered in state or at least given prefrence over OOS. Call them. Explain to them you conections and ask them where to send an email or letter explaining your situation so that your status can be changed. I tried it with a state where i never lived but my wife spend all her life there and stil had family there. And it worked.

I'm assuming strong ties would mean if someone went to say Purdue or Ball State or something like that OOS.
