I read all these threads about first teir, second tier, Name brand, YATA YATA and I never see IU in the "polls". I would just like to post a few words about why I think IU rocks and why I ranked it over other "Brand name" programs like CCF, Iowa, Michigan, etc..

-Great medical center which includes Riley peds hospital one of the top in the country, nice county hospital (wishard), VA, University Hospital, and a really nice private hospital a couple blocks away (got a nice unarail to get you there).
-No short falls. plenty of peds, trauma, Transplant(4thin county), hearts,
-Attendings/Resident relations are good
-only had to interview like 50-60 people to fill 22 spots
-high board pass rate

*disclaimer will be ca1 in the summer.

I recommend applying if you want to be in the midwest. I am really excited to be starting in the summer. Good luck to everyone iin the match

apellous,

I'm glad to hear that your program rocks. I don't know about the rest of the SDNer's, but I often frequent scutwork.com to get the latest word about anesthesia residencies. Would you mind updating IU anesthesia on scutwork.com? There is only one review and it is from a M4 in 2003.

Thanks for the tip about IU!

Just out of curiousity, do you have any knowledge of what % of their interviews were extended to people that were from one of these 3 categories:

1) med school at IU
2) undergrad at IU
3) grew up in Indiana

Right or wrong, the reputation is that unless you fit in one of those categories don't even bother applying.

Also, any knowledge about how many and which fellowships graduates go to? Are they sending lots of grads to fellowships at programs out of state?

I interviewed at IU and I don't belong to any of the above options. What I can tell you is that the day they interviewed me, was along with "the others"(no IU undergraduate) and there were just 10 of us!!!The residents told us and that we are the only ones they are interviewing outside their school.
The interview was on the dinner day itself, totally loved the program, especially the residents and the program director I chose Yale over IU,they both are equally excellent programs

This is what I remember the PD telling me 22 students from IU rotated thru and interviewed. 7 outside rotators that interviewed. 50 people offered interviews divided into two date for these individuals. 25 people excepted/showed up to interview (I nearly did not except the interview b/c I thought it was a charity interview because it was late in the year to be recieving invites but I cancelled Penn State because wife did not want to go to Hershey for 3-4yrs) Matched 22 of the 54. I am not any of those 1-3 that you listed, actually never been to Indiana until I interviewed there and It was my last interview so I had a lot of programs to compare it too. Nothing special in the application department either and above average looks.

I just want to throw out there that this is a great sleeper program and I hope that people who maybe interested inquire and apply because it maybe the right place for you too.

Good luck to everyone on interviewing and I hope you find the right program for you.
