I recently went to a dental meeting where the dean of admissions for the Indiana University dental school was talking about recent trends in dental school applicants. He said that right now, they have received over 1600+ applications. They have interviewed 200 students already and the average gpa of those 200 was 3.6
I am not sharing this to intimidate, but rather, motivate everyone who is serious about the dental profession to keep working hard, because every year it seems to be getting harder.
I am in a precarious situation, attributed to not knowing what I wanted to do. Now, i am pulling up a 2.3 gpa! But it can be done people. Work hard and smart and don't give up on those dreams. Undergrad is my life now.

Dr. Kasberg said that they are dealing with problems on who to accept because there are so many qualified applicants out there.

Take home message=== You must do everything you can to make yourself stand out in a crowd!

Good news, thanks.

I must ask, does it ever become tiring to look down on everyone. Post after post you flaunt your brilliance, as if you are a gift to whichever dental school you choose. I saw your post about the top 10 dental schools and indiana university didn't even make it, so why do you care about them? What is their curriculum based around? and what other schools have the same curriculum?

Edited: took to long to respond. They are one of only three schools with the problem based learning in there dental school. What other schools do this? USC and Harvard.

Is there a purpose to your posting, or is it for your own security(or lack there of)?

That wasn't my list. That was UCSF list based on NIH funding. I haven't applied to all the schools on that list. Plus, I never said that I'd get accepted everywhere. I don't claim to be the best applicant either. Believe it or not I have seriously considered every school that I will go to for my interview. Again, believe it or not I will not go to all my interviews. I said it's good news because 3.6 is still below my GPA. Thus, I still may have a good shot at IU. I want to emphasize this: There is no bad school. Every school I have visitied (IVYs, UCs, private, public, high GPA, low GPA, high DAT, low DAT...) is accredited and as long as you are in top 5% in any denal school you can specialize (if that is what you like). After all, national board exams are probably the best and most important determining factor. BTW, I very much love Indiana University and you don't have to believe me.

Isn't that wonderful? I think you answered your own question. I love PBL. I hope and pray that I'll get accepted. I'll be ecstatic if I receive an acceptance letter from IU.
