Indicating PGY-2 interests for Prelim application in eras?

Hey to those who have applied for prelim programs on eras, theres a box that says if you are applying for the prelim option you can indicate your PGY-2 interest. Just wondering if there are advantages/disadvantages to this...basically what is the importance of this option?
