    Hello all,

    I am seriously interested in applying for fellowship 2016, and I have read as much information as possible on this message board on Industry fellowships (special thanks to IndustryPharmD).

    Some background;
    -I am 4 years out of pharmacy school and have been working in retail, but keeping up very closely with industry.
    -My initial plan after pharmacy school was Industry, but I had some special circumstances that made me have to go into retail asap. Now they are resolved, and I desire more than anything to get into industry.
    -I have a BSc. Finance (don't know if industries care much about this).
    -I had a few industry rotations with preceptors who will be willing to writing me great recommendations.

    Starting really early, because I know the odds are probably against me (based on how long I've been out of school), but I am prepared to work as hard as ever to make it next year. Would appreciate any and all advice, tips on applications and how to get an edge.

    Has anyone else applied a few years after graduation? Goodluck to everyone else applying for next year!

    My preliminary suggestions:

    1) Make sure your CV is as outstanding as it would have been straight out of pharmacy school, and even moreso since you've been out for 4 years. Have industry professionals (maybe those preceptors you mentioned) help your CV reach it's full potential. Use it to show how what you've been doing these past 4 years will be advantageous in the industry setting.

    2) Network. Get your name out there way before Midyear. Fellows will be able to direct you to other fellows who may have been selected for a fellowship after an extended period of time working elsewhere.

    3) Use those preceptor connections to also find out about entry level positions that you may be able to fill in the event you aren't selected for a fellowship.

    Thank you so much! I appreciate your response ICaPharmD...will take those into account.

    That said, does anyone know anything about Community Pharmacy Liaison opportunities (aka Pharmacy Account Specialist). It has come up several times during my research as a possible stepping stone for community pharmacists into Industry. I realize there is probably a sizable pay cut but its a sacrifice I'm wiling to make if its a good fit for me.

    @merceraluminum I know of a few people who are in this position, but I don't know too many details about it.

    Here's a personal experience from someone in the role:

    I would suggest looking on Indeed/other job websites at the descriptions for positions like this.

    I was out three years before I did my fellowship. PM me if you have any specific questions.

    I am a current fellow and could not have gotten to this point without mentors, current fellows, and people here like IndustryPharmD helping along the way last year. This year I've decided to pay it forward and help applicants in the same way that so many people helped me. For the rest of the year, I'll be keeping a blog about pursuing industry fellowships to serve as a resource for the next round of fellowship applicants. Feel free to follow along, and leave comments about topics you'd be interested in.
