So I was perusing various med schools web sites and came across AE and was wondering if any SDNer's had any feed back or information about this school such as:
What kind of reputation does AE have? What are somes pros and cons of this school? Why did you apply to it or want to?

AE is a good school, well known on the east coast, esp in NYC, where there are a lot of good residencies to go around.

good academics, known to be a very "personable" school
bad point: it is in the Bronx, a low-class, high crime area in new york

although, as i have said many times, AECOM is in a section of the Bronx that is middle class Italian, not the crack houses of the South Bronx you non-NYers see on TV.

But for someone not used to urban life, it certainly isnt the upper east side.

i really liked it there, was sorta down they didnt accept me already, hoping to hear good news on jan 15

I interviewed at AECOM in October and thought it was a pretty dreary place. Its a good school with a good reputation though. The class is pretty diverse I think, but its definitely a jewish school. The cafeteria is kosher and the library is closed on saturdays. I prefer a school with less of a religious/ethnic identity, so I pulled my app after the interview. The class is really big too, which I didn't like. Its worth checking out though, you may like it.

i'd have to second some of what CTIL said. it did feel a little dreary, but the weather might have had something to do with that. the cafeteria was pretty weak though, although i realize that is not most people's main concern when choosing a med school. the school does have a good reputation though and their students get pretty good residencies all over the place. for example, i've actually seen a number of einstein students on the ucsf resident rosters.

I was offered an interview at Einstein, but turned it down since I had since decided that another school was the place for me.

Anyway, this info is taken from:

Open Questions
What do you like best about your school?

* Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University Very cooperative learning environment--students always willing to help one another. Students are very easy to get along with; no super-huge egos. Faculty sets high learning goals for students.
* Have affordable housing that is nice within a two minute walk of campus.
* limited class time. Low stress
* Excellent administrative support for running organizations, funding trips to national conferences.
* The student body is great -everyone is very friendly. Also, the faculty and staff are very supportive and available.
* The students have the most varied interests and backgrounds imaginable, everyone's very approachable; we get really good clinical exposure throughout the 4 years at school, and rotate through the most diverse hospitals of this and other communities. Lots of opportunity for research. Awesome housing arrangement.
* Being in the Bronx allows you to gain experience with a patient population that is enormously diverse, and the school helps provide opportunities for us to learn from these patients. Students are very involved in community outreach, and we even have a student-run free clinic. We are encouraged to go summer programs in Latin America to learn Spanish to better communicate with patients.
* students, eduation is good

What do you like least about your school?

Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University
* Located in safe but boring neighborhood in Bronx; Manhattan 30-45 minutes away by public transportation. Some faculty are excellent at teaching, while others should stick to research.
* The buildings look dreary.
* Library, study spaces
* The Bronx!!!
* Not much financial assistance, other than federal loans, is offered but education is expensive. However, there is not much paperwork we need to be involved in, the financial assistant does everything for us.
* The libraries are closed for the Sabbath, but there is little other study space for people who still choose to study then. Fordham library, though beautiful, is too far for students without a car, and the few conference rooms fill quickly on exam weekends.
* administration is not student friendly. No real advocacy for student needs or requests. Dean of students inadequate.

Please share any other thoughts you may have about your school.

Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University
* The Bronx has many colorful characters that keep the area very interesting.
* I recommend Einstein
* Don't let the fact that Einstein's an affiliate of Yeshiva stop you from applying. It's a great school and you really don't feel any different here than you would anywhere else, the atmosphere's very good. Plus, you get lots of vacation time in your first year. Again, great teaching staff and research opportunities are plenty.
* Einstein students are very relaxed, and this makes medical school much more fun than I ever thought it would be!
* you will learn medicine, but many leave with a bitter taste

Thank you for all the information everyone.
