I know all about o chem compound acidity, but g chem compound acidity is giving me a hard time.
Besides resonance, are there any trends that are helpful to determine an acid's strength?

just memorize the strong acids. the rest are weak acids.
strong acids are h2so4, hno3, hcl, hbr,HI, HCLO2, HCLO3 (HF is not included)

Issa, where did you get your list from??

Some Common Strong Acids (As Ionisers)

(Strongest to weakest)

* Perchloric acid HClO4
* Hydroiodic acid HI
* Hydrobromic acid HBr
* Hydrochloric acid HCl
* Sulfuric acid H2SO4 (Ka1/first dissociation only)
* Nitric acid HNO3
* Hydronium ion H3O+

* Some chemists include chloric acid (HClO3), bromic acid (HBrO3), perbromic acid (HBrO4), iodic acid (HIO3), and periodic acid (HIO4) as strong acids, although these are not universally accepted.
