NOTE: if this thread is to be moved I respectfully requested that the thread pertaining to inspirational biblical quotes also be moved as both run in the same vein of thought.

my personal favorite:

"To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden path or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have suceeded."

I'll throw some metal up in here:

"Make me feel serenity when all is revealed
So easy to look back in life and question
But i must seek to find the strength
to push forward"
~Killswitch Engage (from Temple From the Within )

"Your world is coming apart
Remain steadfast

Perseverance
Against all opposition
Crushing all limitations
Pure strength through solitude
Discipline and determination"
~Hatebreed (from Perserverance )

"It's a long road and it's mental endurance stress test
Sometimes you fight and you win, sometimes you fight and
You lose
It's the fighter in you
Not to lose

So keep you head high

Cause they will always kick you when you're down

You have to trust in yourself
You must believe in yourself
You have to follow your heart
You overcome, improve, endure"
~Machine Head (from Kick You When You're Down )

That is the simplest, most meaningful, and most valuable quote I've heard in a long time.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees & the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors & aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery & broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

~ Max Ehrmann

" Before success comes in any man's life he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat and, perhaps, some failures. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is to quit. That is exactly what the majority of men do."

" If you're waiting for someone to believe in you, you'll be waiting forever. You must believe in yourself."

The Astronaut pic took me a bit.. but then... it was mean, and cruel, and funny all at the same time... I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.

Glad you liked it. I love it--and I hate poetry! I think it is well suited for us pre-meds.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise & haste, & remember what peace there may be in silence. ... Speak your truth quietly & clearly; and listen to others, even the dull & ignorant; they too have their story.

... If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater & lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time...
