  1. Pre-Dental
The left hemisphere is involved in: verbal and linguistics.
Right hemisphere is involved in spatial, visual, shapes and patterns.
Left handers use more of right hemisphere while right handers make more use of left hemisphere.
Therefore, right handers should tend to excel in the interview and communication with patients. Where as left handers should tend to excel on the PAT where spatial and visual patterns are tested.
But it is interesting how dental schools want us to excel at both when biology tends to favor one or the other.

The left hemisphere is involved in: Verbal, linguistic and other things.
Right hemisphere is: spatial, visual, shapes and patterns and others.

Right handed people are mostly left hemishere dominant.
While left handed people are usually left hemi dominant, but can be right or even both hemisphere dominant.

Dental schools want us students to be verbal and linguistic in the interviews so we can communicate to patients easily. However they test on visual and spatial on the PAT so we can understand/interpret what we see in school and clinic.
But we can't be both.........:scared:

there are so many inconsistencies in this, i don't even know where to begin...

I agree so I'll try my best to translate.

The left hemisphere is involved in: Verbal, and linguistics.
Right hemisphere is: spatial, visual, shapes and patterns
Lefty's have better control of right hemisphere while righties have better control of left hemisphere for obvious Bio 101 reasons

Thus righties should theoretically do better on the interview and RC where verbal and linguistics are involved while lefties should theoretically do better on the PAT where spatial and visual patterns are tested.

So OP is trying to say that it's somewhat unfair to make us do both because theoretically, we can only be good at one of those things. Correct if wrong

Ok, take it easy... I am jumping back and forth to this and studying for tommorrow. Yes you are right.

oh yeah, i remember that day that my 3rd grade teacher taught me this....

Ok, that makes a bit more sense.....
But is this really unfair? Is it too much to ask someone to be well-rounded? And just because you are "left hemisphere" dominant doesn't mean you can't tell the difference between a circle and a square... We are dealing with 'levels of competency'.... you can be really good with left brain stuff and be pretty good with right brain stuff. Alternatively, my left and right brain can both individually be better than someone else's left and right brain... Just become I'm left brain dominant doesn't mean that someone who is right brain dominant will definately be better at right brain stuff than me. Do others see this logic?
I don't see how it is unfair for them to challenge our entire brain... And yes it takes a wide array of skill sets to become a dentist: this is no surprise to anyone.

Maybe others did learn this in 3rd grade.

Ok, no need to pick this apart that much. It was a joke and I was being sarcastic. Guess that is to much for some people to become aware of.

actually you work best if you only use your left brain, i suggest you cut your corpus collosum and remove the right.

Except you lose what the right hemisphere provides. Also you would lose some motor function in the left side of your body. Thanks for the suggestion though.

golly, didnt think about that... ****.. ok dont do that then.

Learn to do both. Lots of us can already do it. If you can't, then consider dental assisting. I'll have a job opening in two years if you're interested. :meanie:

I took many tests in the past to see which hemisphere I use more. All tests showed I use both of them the same. So I believe that we don't have to be one or the other...

Absolutely like your undernote about cereal bag... and it's true for me now🙂

I am a left hander and I got 16 on PAT, even though i studied my head off for PAT...I guess there are always exceptions

  • Let a=b.
  • Then

  • This can be written as

    ,
  • and canceling the

    from both sides gives 1=2.

Maybe Im an exception to the rule, but I am a RIGHT hander. I took a practive CDP PAT and got a 24, then I took a second and got a 26. I haven't studied at all, just took these two tests, and from what I hear they are really similar to the real PAT on the DAT, who knows......Im an exception.
