So I sent most of my secondaries around late July and have gotten 6 IIs so far, 2 holds, and one rejection.
The weird thing is that most of the interviews I've gotten are from higher ranked schools while I have not heard anything (or rejected) from lower tiered schools. I've been checking the forum for all the schools I've applied to and it seems that they have all sent out interviews to people who sent their secondaries after me.
I know it's early in the cycle but it seems strange to me that I haven't been interviewed at less competitive schools.

40/4.0 problems

Stats? Maybe mid-tiers know you will likely get acceptances from top schools, so they won't waste time on you when they can interview someone who wants to be at that school.

He has a 4.0/40 - you offer a valid point. With stats like that, you'd be stupid not to apply to top-tier schools and mid-tiers know that. They're not going to spend the investment in you when it's very likely you'll apply, interview and matriculate at a higher-tier school.

So you are saying Mid-tier schools will not interview qualified applicants if they believe they can get into better schools? Wouldn't that would make the whole idea of applying broadly pointless?
What about all the talk about schools (like GW and Drexel) interviewing high stat applicants first?

Same thing happened to me!! i've mostly got invites from my reach schools. Seven of nine of my invites are reach schools. One in-range (based on stats), one safety. One reach school rejection, one hold from a safety. It is perplexing. But at least I'm not the only one.

It's a hard knock life.

Dude, you have 6 ii's in September...

chill_pill.preview.jpg

Assuming that that is a close up of that pill and it is actually the size of a Tylenol, it would have a density 100 times that of Uranium. Thus, I can only assume that that is the actual size of that pill and not a blown up image. If we assume (since we can't see) the depth to be ~1cm, that would make it's density about 3.5 g/cm^3 which means that this "chill pill" is actually made of pure diamond.

I am nerdy... and need a consult to come in...

Or Martian soil... which has the same density as diamond according to this master's thesis.

You said it yourself - it's still early in the cycle. Maybe it's not in the school's mission/agenda to interview high-number people unless they fit some internal criteria. Maybe you will end up getting a ton of IIs later down the road.

In any case, nobody really knows what goes on behind closed doors. Like others have said, you're in great shape as far as the cycle is concerned - you have nothing to worry about.

With 6 II's so far, I think the OP needs to check out the 2012-2013 Panic Thread.

What have I said that makes you think I'm panicking?
I'm merely trying to make sense of this trend which seems contrary to what I was expecting...

somethings wrong. I got interviews from all the schools i thought i would and didn't hear back from ones didn't think would invite me.

ACal: I'll give you an honest answer...or at least, an honest attempt at one.

Your dearth of interview invites from mid- and lower-tiered schools (I hate that term, by the way, because there are so many excellent schools) may indicate, quite simply, that they don't view you as a great fit. For instance, maybe your personal statement and activities reveal a sustained interest in and strong affinity for research, whereas many low-tiers are more likely to emphasize primary care or service to regional and underserved communities. You should keep in mind that such schools often have more applicants than more prestigious schools, and their admissions are probably based less on numbers on more on "fit" (however that concept applies to them).

Of course, you may well receive several interview invites in the coming weeks (it is still early, after all). I wouldn't give up on them just yet.

Best of luck.

This trend is really intolerable. My not-reach schools hate me. I got put on hold at GWU, and I just got rejected from Brown. I have invites from 5 of the 6 top 10 schools I've heard back from. This makes no sense. There has to be a screen. Or maybe these schools hate california people. 👎thumbdown👎

I dont know about gwu, but brown is one of the most selective schools in the country (3rd maybe?).

Schools often only interview people they think will actually attend. They know what to look for in students that will actually decide to attend their school. A school with a 3.6 and 30 average and $70,000 total cost of attendance isn't going to bother interviewing a 4.0 and 40MCAT from the other side of the country. They have a class to fill.
