I'm almost a Junior in High School around San Fernando Valley, Southern California. I'm really interested in medicine and helping people around my community in a variety of ways. To build up my experiences, I am looking for opportunities beyond just volunteering at a hospital. I was thinking of maybe overshadowing a doctor, or, if possible, interning at a hospital with other doctors to get direct experience with the doctors talking to patients and work ethics.
Unfortunately, I don't have any connections with doctors and most I've asked haven't replied back or are just too busy. If anyone is familiar with a doctor here in the Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley, that is willing to have me work for them or help out at their hospitals, I would greatly appreciate if you share contact emails of numbers.
Any other opportunities to help the community would also be awesome! I'm always motivated to dedicate time in order to communicate with my community and help out in any way.
Thanks, and hope to hear from you guys 🙂

Talk to your parents and see if they know anyone that know physicians. As a high school student, I highly doubt that physicians with whom you have no contact would be cool with you coming in shadowing them. You might also want to ask your teachers and see if they can help.

If you know no one, go to a local hospital and volunteer for a while. Choose one or two departments and stick with it... Eventually, the nurses and doctors will get to know you if you go often enough. When you feel the time is right, go up to one of the physicians and ask if you can shadow them. That's how I shadowed my first doctor (EM physician in a small non-teaching hospital).

Good luck.
