I recently won a fellowship that will allow me to travel for a year and pursue a year of independent study. I proposed to study systems of emergency medicine in Geneva, Bombay/Banglore, Auckland and Sao Paulo (or another Brazilian city) for three months each. I was wondering if any of you were or knowED docs or work in an associated field in any of these locations or nearby locations. I am currently deferring a year of medical school (I intend to go to Penn State as part of the entering class of 2004) to pursue this research and am really interested in getting the most out of this experience as possible. Also, if any of you know offhand if it is possible to get EMT training in any of these locations, that would be useful, as well. Basically, I'm just looking for any kind of information on these locations (housing, cost of living, etc) that might be useful, but specifically for contacts in ED's or in the emergency medical system at all.

Thanks in advance for ANY help anyone can provide. If you're interested in more details on what I'm doing, just PM me :).

boston medical center's emergency residency site has an international medicine database that let's you search by country and stuff. it is pretty nice and led me to some people with a program in chile and argentina. At any rate, their site seems to be down right now, but I'd look there in the next little while.

there was a thread here about international EM earlier this year. Try searching this forum for that thread and more programs which may have contacts.

I don't remember her name but the lady doc who runs the IEM frogram at Loma Linda is really on the ball. If you go to their EM websit and then look for the International bar on the left you should be able to find it. Tamara Thompson? that might be it.
good luck.
