International Fellowships S/P Domestic Residency?

I'm a long way off, as intern year starts later this month, but I was curious as to whether or not an international fellowship was a) possible, b) recognized in the U.S. , and c) if anyone had experience with this.

I know of some surgeons who have had success in the past...

For non accredited fellowships (ob, neuro, ambulatory, regional, transplant, trauma) you should be ok. For accredited fellowships it will probably be seen as work experience, not as a real fellowship.
