Is there any quick way of finding out which medical school to apply, if you are an international student and have a research degree from US/Canada?
Thanks

Apply to all of the top private schools: Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Stanford, Emory, Vanderbilt,UPenn, Northwestern. They generally do not care if you're international or not. A few schools that are generally hesitant: UPenn, Cornell, Uchicago (these give ZERO financial aid to internationals, and might even ask for the deposit of the cost of four years in an escrow account).

Actually, I thought this was true of pretty much all programs, according to the MSAR anyway. Maybe some of these schools give out some money to internationals, but I've never heard about it. Anyone?

Harvard doesn't care about your immigration status in its financial aid assessment. The same is true of Yale (this was a recent change). Vanderbilt, Emory have scholarships that can be awarded to international students. Northwestern has private loan funds for international students. Columbia has scholarship funds also. Stanford, UPenn and Cornell will consider international students and routinely accept them but I believe there aren't any funds for them. I'm holding out on Stanford.... You never know what you'll find out at the financial aid session.

Hey ,
good luck and , where are u from?

Hey guys,

Iam an international student studying in a good liberal arts college in the US,
I'm asking about any info regarding Medical schools that provide loans/grants for international students, that is: when such schools accept international students- any list of such schools or info from international students who got funds and from Med schools here would help me so much and help many other internationals pursuing the same goal!!! thank you so much in advance

Duke and JHU require an escrow account to be established as well. Just something to be aware of. However, being international hasn't adversely affected my admissions but definitely its something to consider in terms of aid. Just have to hope that some merit scholarships come your way. That's what I'm doing

In general, most schools give no money for internationals. They usually require proof of ability to pay for 1 year, and some schools require all 4 years of tuition to be deposited in an escrow before they will give you an F-1 visa. Go here for more info on acceptance rates/finaid: http://www.fiu.edu/~preprofc/International_Students_School_Policies.htm

In terms of funding, for the above poster, you either need a US co-signer for bank loans, funding from your own country (banks), limited scholarships from the schools themselves, or you can try Teri Loans (specifically CanHelp if you're Canadian).

Good luck.
