To all those guys that interviewed, did you buy 1 or 2 interviewing suits. Someone told me 2 is a must, i was planning on getting one. its going to be for md/phd stuff so two day interviews. thanks.

hahahah that's ridiculous....just wear one suit.....you're not going to look any better than anyone else in a suit...I think the idea is to just blend in and steer all focus to what's said in the interview. I could picture people being that overcritical in the business world, but not in medicine....

I wore the same suit 2 days in a row and got in to that school, so it worked for me.

Jot,

One suit is fine. I would bring two shirts and two ties though. If you are interviewing for two days at a time, it might be good to have a different shirt and tie on (i'm not saying you'll be kickin, but i know i feel better when my clothes are fresh and clean). I didn't interview for md/phd, but I think one suit is just fine. there were times when i had to fly and interview at two schools back to back. I took one suit, but brought along an extra shirt.

You'll shortly realize that if you are dressed appropriately they won't remember your garb anyway. It is only when you stand out, that you will be remembered..and you don't want to be remembered for your suit/tie/etc..This one guy had on a light beige tweed suit with one of those collarless shirts that had that western rope thing on the front. I'm sure everyone who interviewed with me that day still remembers that outfit.

i'd opt for a dark blue, black, or dark charcoal grey suit with a light shirt and matching tie. and make sure the shoes are clean.

you don't have to worry about this for a few months..

good luck.

how do pin stripes look on a dark suit??

is that too much or is that all right?

Advice: take two suits (if you already have them) just in case if spill something on one. If you have the third suit, take it with you too, just in case if if you spill something on the first two suites.

And dont forgot to take 2 cars, just in case the first Porsche brakes down! 🙄

Ahh....sorry for the double post, IE crashed on me... 😛

Just take one. You can even wear the same outfit to every interview. Although switching shirts and ties is nice once in a while. In the end it doesn't matter what you wear as long as it is appropriate. They are looking to see what kind of physician you will make. In fact a good friend of mine went on his interviews with only one suit, shirt, and tie. He got into countless top 10 schools because he was extremely well qualified. A good record and humility are your most powerful assests.

thanks a lot, i forgot that common sense should be a factor as well 🙂 one suit it is. it just happened that this is when i have to buy the suits, otherwise i wouldn't be bothering until a couple months from now. thanks though.

Just one...c'mon, you really think anyone's gonna know (or care)? Think economically...

Just buy one. I had two suits but I ended up just wearing one of them, since I developed a preference for my dark navy suit and felt more comfortable in it.

4 suits is a must. Have one for each day and then a third and fourth for the actual interview. Usually they have a interview/suit changing booth to the right of the interview room.

Don't forget the matching trenchcoat and cufflinks. Don't sit down until asked to in the interview and never where the same watch on each day.

those posts are funny...but seriously, i would have 2 suits, not necessarily for the interview, but for future "engagements". unless you want to look like a slacker all your life, a suit is one of the best investments to make. whether it's a nice date, dinner, cocktail party, wedding, etc., it's essential to get a few suits. hey, men in black always look good!

Just buy one suit. No one is really gonna notice you are wearing the same suit both days. What you might do is to buy two white dress shirts.

I second what other people say. A nice black suit would be sufficient. Bring extra shirts and ties and make sure you bring a couple of turbans and chak de phatte, yaar.!!!

Good luck, you'll get in, Singh.

right now, when you will be spending hundreds of dollars on applications and travel arrangement for interview and the like, I would not buy more than one suit, unless you have the money or someone else is buying it..one suit is perfectly fine, and then maybe later down the road after this process when you would wear suits often, you may buy more, but for interviews, i would say one suit is perfectly fine..although packing a suit in each of the primary colors is also advised... 🙂

I used to always bring 2 suits with me to every interview just in case anything happened to one of them. In retrospect though, it's not that difficult to explain to the interviewer that something happened to the only suit that you brought with you. 1 is sufficient. I would bring an extra shirt, underwear and socks just in case though.

If given a choice between two average suits or ONE WELL-MADE SUIT, well I'd go with the one, nicely tailored suit...I personally prefer blue, but black may come in handy for funerals (lol).

Be sure to take several shirts and POWER ties...stand out without being too distracting

oh if i'm buying one suit, i'm only buying one pair of underwear; i sure as hell am not going to be called on for being inconsistent. 🙂

Better yet, just wear a clown costume. You will definitely get the attention and distinction you need to set yourself above the rest of the boringly clad dark suits.

You guys are a total crack-up...I am so glad I came on board.

Seriously though, I would buy at least 2 suits, especially since you said it's a 2-day interview. Not only as a precautionary measure, but so it looks fresh and different. Personally, buying the clothes is what I am looking forward to the most! I am going to milk it for all it's worth. 😀

However, I do recommend you only bring 1 pair of underwear...you can use it about 4 times...front and back on one side, and then front and back inside-out
