so i have my first interview coming up in a couple of weeks and i'm not sure whether i should leave in or take out my nose stud. it's very small and (i like to think) classy. but i've been warned by my peers that some adcom people tend to be very conservative so this is a risk i should not take. i'm also indian...so maybe it being part of my culture takes away some of the stigma? not sure, let me know what you guys think i should do. thanks!

female? yes leave it
male? no take it out

i'm female hehe.

I think a small nose stud is fine, and the fact that you're Indian makes it even more fine.

i interviewed at a school a few weeks ago and saw that one of the interviewees had a small stud. it looked really good on her. i say wear it.

Indian female? they'll barely notice it. It seems quite common for desi girls. You just want to avoid looking outrageous or something, and you definitely won't stand out. Besides, if you took it out, won't the hole be almost as noticeable?

i had a small nose stud that i took out before interviewing. i don't know how big of a deal it is, but i didn't want to risk not getting accepted because of it. however, i'm not indian, so that probably makes a difference. in your situation, my hunch is that it's okay.

actually, no, the hole's not noticeable at all, imo. it also grows back together in like two days, so be sure to stick it back in promptly.

i'd say no, just to be on the safe side.

Yeah I was thinking "no" too but everyone else seemed to think otherwise.

If wearing the nose ring is worth the risk of it turning off an interviewer then wear it.

IMO just take it out for the time you are there.

The way I see it the nose stud probably won't help you. It could potentially hurt you. I wouldn't risk it.

I'm in the exact same situation and I'm glad you brought that up because I didn't even really think about it. I guess I forget that I have it sometimes... Anyways, mine's super-tiny and I really don't think it'll make a difference so I'm gonna opt for leaving it in (although, this thread has made me confused about it).

An Indian girl with a nose stud is hardly anything outrageous. I don't think you need to worry about taking it out.

If your worried about it closing there are plastic retainers you can wear that make it pretty difficult if not imposible to see that you have the piercing. The brand is bonez.

If you have questions about it avoid it. Do you want to stand out like that? But yeah, put it back in at the end of the day because that thing will grow right back.

one of the student hosts i stayed with had an eyebrow ring. i asked her (because i also had one) if she took it out to interview. she said no. obviously, she was accepted to the program, so the ring in her eyebrow (which i think is much more noticeable than a nose stud) was not too big of a deal. i would think each school is different with their "rules" and you want to present yourself professionally. personally, i don't think a nose stud is unprofessional just make sure there aren't any boogers hanging off of it!! 😛
