Hi all. I'm a recent law school grad who's now an MSI. I'm interested in a career in int'l health/law/policy, maybe something affiliated with the WHO, UN, or MSF. Does anyone know which residency(ies) would be best for this kind of thing? All I know right now is that I'll have to get my MPH eventually. Also, if anyone knows of any internships in these areas for med students, please pass on that info.

Thanks.

it doesn't sound like you HAVE to do a residency if you don't actually want to practice medicine and just want to do policy.

wow. you're racking up a ton of degrees.
JD, MD, MPH?
that's cool!

Jazz Gal,

The American Medical Student Association (AMSA) has a web site of opportunities for students interested in international health. The address is:

<a href="http://www.amsa.org/global/ih/ihopps.cfm" target="_blank">http://www.amsa.org/global/ih/ihopps.cfm</a>

I'm sure many of these internships/electives would be thrilled to have someone with your background and interests.

Good luck!

Jazz Gal:

It might be worth your while to apply directly to organizations of interest to you. For example, even if Ford Foundation doesn't have any official/structured internship programs, if you call them up they might be able to make something for you.

Cheers

You may want to consider a residency in Preventive Medicine (did i get the name right?) - as many include MPH degrees in their programs.
