HI,

This is my first time posting on SDN and I am wondering if there is anyone who can help me out. I have an upcoming interview at Iowa and am looking for a list of standard questions.

On the interview feedback site, the people who posted said they prepared for their interview by looking at the standard questions they got with their interview confirmation letter. I received my confirmation letter today, but no list of standard questions was enclosed.

Does anyone know if Iowa indeed sends out this list of questions with the letter? I want to be certain before I call Iowa, so that they don't think I am weird. If anyone has the list of questions or knows how many standard questions there are in total, I would really appreciate it if you could let me know.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! 🙂

I don't know what they are off the top of my head, but if you go to SDNs interview feedback site and the test version of interviewfeedback (found on the top of the pre-allo forum) you will find the questions. I know that I have read them in the past.

In the letter it says something like, "Interviewers are instructed to ask questions relating to your interest in a medical career, your compassion, how you react in difficult situations, blah blah". That was as close to a "list" of questions as I got. Basically they take those 3 or 4 qualities and ask you how you exemplify them. Pretty generic questions really. If you look over the interview feedback posts and see which questions are listed by 3 or more posters, those are the ones you're guaranteed to be asked. Good luck with your interview- Iowa is a great school!!

Here. . . I did a search. These are from the interviewfeedback.com test site.

"I prepared by reading this page, going over the 5 possible questions which are: 1) Why are in interested in medicine? 2) What qualities do you possess that will help you to become a successful doctor? 3) How do you deal with difficult situation and explain whether you seek additional help or you solve it by yourself. 4) Name a problem that many global communities face today. How should physicians work to solve it? 5) Medical school is very stressful. How do you suppose you will handle the stress of medical school? -"

I agree that Iowa is a great school. I wish they would show me some love.

Dear JBJ and HoMuffin,

THANK YOU so much for all your help! You both are life savers! 🙂

HoMuffin - (or anyone who can answer this question) - how many enclosures did you get with the interview confirmation letter?

I got only an letter confirming my interview and a map. The letter mentioned that my interview "will be conducted by two College of Medicine faculty members who will meet with (me) for approximately 25 minutes."

The letter didn't mention anything about the possible topics.

Do you know if I am missing any other papers they were supposed to send?

I just found something in the invitation letter that says, "The Admissions Committee has requested that faculty interviewers consider the following issues in a structured format: your interest in a medical career, personal characteristics that will help you in your career, how you deal with difficult situations and your ability to show compassion for others."

Is that the list of questions everyone has been talking about? A general topics list and not the actual list of questions?

I think that was why I was confused in the first place.

Once, again, many thanks for all your kind help! 😀

Awwwh! Poor JBJ!

I hope Iowa will show you some love too! Heck, I hope ALL of the schools you applied to will show you some love.

Thank you for going out of your way and for looking up those questions for me. I really appreciate your time and help. Good luck with everything and if you ever need any help looking up stuff, I'll be more than glad to do so. 😀

Elizabeth, I think I only recieved the letter and a map- mayyybe also a brochure. And yes, that general set of topics was as specific as they get. Other than that, the interview is wide open. I'd suggest being ready with a few questions of your own to ask the interviewers. Feel free to PM me with any questions 🙂

Again, good luck! And hopefully you, JBJ and I will all get some Iowa lovin soon!! 😀

Thanks for the encouragement. I really cannot complain too much, as I do have an acceptance somewhere, and am an out of stater. It's just that I spent the 1st half of my life in IA, and still have close family there. Plus, it is a great school!

JBJ, I PMed you 🙂
