Ok so PI in my mind refers to a whole lab, I am working independently with an MD corresponding and (tentatively) a PhD as co. Would that work?

Out of curiosity, how much does impact factor matter for undergrad pubs? I'm stuck between 2 and 7 IF choices, any huge benefit to getting pubbed in a higher one? Obviously big names like NEJM, Nature, Cell have their own wow factor but aside from that does if really matter from an adcom perspective? Funny thing is both journals in my case have nearly same number of downloads per year so that shouldn't change

I doubt that factor is making any appreciable difference for your application as a pre-med. The fact of the matter is that you having a pub already separates you out from a bunch of candidates, and is not the norm by any means.
