Is a Verbal Acceptance Legally Binding?

Hello everyone,

An admissions officer called to tell me I was accepted about 10 days ago. (A week ago, last Tuesday)

Well, I've waited and waited and the acceptance letter still hasn't arrived. I just left voice mail and emailed them.

I'm getting really worried. All previous correspondence only took 4-5 days, tops. Perhaps they forgot to send it or worse, perhaps they forgot that I was going to take the spot and sent the letter to the next person down the list.

Does anyone think that I may actually lose my spot? Do you think it's possible I'll call monday and she'll say sorry, but we gave your spot to someone else? Can this happen? Is there any sort of legal recourse on a verbal acceptance? Is a verbal acceptance legally binding?

They also made a previous mistake with me. They sent me a letter on May 1st saying that they received my notice of withdrawal, which I never sent!! Thus, I called them promptly and go myself reinstated.

I would assume that nothing is binding until you have the acceptance in writing along with an appropriate signature. I suggest that you be patient for just a little while longer. But if you really feel the need....call your admissions office and find out what is taking so long 😕 .

If you got a call, I'm fairly sure that you are in. The holdup is probably due to mailing issues, so don't sweat it. Congratulations stdent9972 !!

go celebrate!, have one on me!, its not legally binding but its EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that you remeber the name of the person you spoke with. Ask to speak to this person directly & explain how you gave up other spots in other schools cause you're heart was with that school. I'm sure by the time you get this post, you already gotten your official stuff but here it is just in case!
