I just started getting spam emails with incorrect info about professional issues in them from that Modern Psychologist person who used to post on here. Anyone else getting a bunch of those? I didn't sign up for it so I assume he was crawling the emails of faculty at programs... was that incorrect info going to any students as well?

Dude was weird as hell

would love to know the content of the misinformation.

I got an email yesterday from Modern Psychologist, something about "the EPPP-2 roll out plan." But I have been receiving "newsletters" from him for the last several months, ever since I obtained a "free retired EPPP exam" from his site, and figured that I inadvertently signed up for this newsletter in the process. I have gotten his blog/newsletter emailed to me ever since (approximately once a month, not enough for me to really notice or bother to take the time to unsubscribe).

Edit: blog post –– http://www.modernpsychologist.com/real-eppp-2-roll-plan

The guy is obviously angry because he apparently went into this profession with about as much insight and naiveté as my 14 year old cousin.

"For me, becoming a psychologist was mostly about the very serious business of understanding everything about the human mind..."
The most telling part of that essay for me was the perspective that he is so lonely with his critiques of various aspects of the medical model as applied to mental illness. I have espoused many of the same critiques and have heard them in various forms from countless others. So why the feeling that he is in an echo chamber or that he is the sole champion of this crusade?

I mean, I do agree with him about the EPPP step 2, but I stopped following on FB/email because some of the content was just getting too weird for me. I still see emails from him on the ECP listserv though.

FYI he took that post from here: https://www.madinamerica.com/2015/07/the-lonely-way/
Not the same person as Modern Psychologist. They also have notably different writing styles. The Modern Psychologist guy is much more tangential/"ranty" in his writing.

It probably works for him. Helps him champion his crusade, if he's doing it all alone, he's the leader of it, fighting the world, and the rest of us don't understand. We all "bought in" or "sold out" whereas that author is the only one "fighting for it to be the way it should be" or somesuch. Or at least that would be my off the cuff guess.

"Modern Psychologists operate as a guerrilla, unrestricted to people with formal affiliations or outdated bureaucratic bodies."

Wait, are you all saying here that you don't want to be guerrillas?! People, everyone knows that professional psychology is literally warfare.

edit: also, lol at this book "Click Millionaires" being advertised on their product page. http://www.modernpsychologist.com/amazon-astore/

It's one thing to criticize the APA, but they seem opposed to the concept that they would be accountable to any licensing, boarding, or other professional membership organization. Kind of reeks of someone who went to a non accredited program or couldn't pass the EPPP.

They also promote "the secret."
